FRANCE: Following their FIFA World Cup final defeat against Argentina in Doha, France players Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Randal Kolo Muani have been subjected to appalling racial abuse.

After extra time ended in a 3-3 draw, France was defeated on penalties by Argentina in a thrilling final.

Tchouameni and Coman both missed penalties in the shootout, and Kolo Muani missed a chance for France to win the game in extra time.

Following that, the trio received numerous racist messages on social media. Later, Meta, which owns WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, removed all of these comments.

In a statement made because of the racial abuses, Meta said that it had removed the disgusting comments because they broke community rules for the social media site and emphasised its zero-tolerance policy for racist abuse on Instagram.

Meta added that it wants to help protect users from having to see the racial abuse in the first place. It explained the development of the “Hidden Words” feature on the popular social media site.

The feature filters and limits offensive comments and Direct Messages from people who don’t follow the user or only recently followed the user.

Additionally, Meta has directly communicated with the French players and their teams since the final to support and assist them in using the hidden words feature.

Bayern Munich has vocally backed Coman, condemning the bigoted comments about him.

The French football federation wants punishment for the social media users who posted racist comments about some of the national team’s players.

On Tuesday, the federation said that the “unacceptable racist and hateful comments” on social media affected some players and planned to file a complaint against those who posted and condoned the racial abuse aimed at the French footballers.
