Golden Globes to Return in 2023 after Skipping Broadcast This Year Due to Scandals and Allegations

The main reason for the boycott of Golden Globes was the lack of diversity and racial inclusivity

UNITED STATES: The Golden Globe Awards, one of the most prestigious award ceremonies to be held in the Hollywood film industry, is all set to return next year after skipping broadcast this year owing to a series of scandals, lawsuits and other despicable allegations against those involved in the hosting of this grand event. This time the Golden Globes will be aired and televised live since this year; the award event has been a complete no-show.

The main reason for the boycott of Golden Globes was the lack of diversity and racial inclusivity in the categories of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) awards by several groups and movie stars.

Moreover, the 2021 edition was delayed due to the pandemic and was held almost two months after its designated schedule. Like the Academy Awards or the Oscars, the Golden Globes also recognizes the best of cinema, but the television genre also comes under its critical purview. Several Sources have revealed that the award ceremony will be back next year on the telly. In the US, ABC News will broadcast the event.

HFPA has been accused on multiple grounds of refusing nomination on various whimsy grounds. Actor Brendan Fraser, popular for his franchise collection The Mummy, accused ex-HFPA president Philip Berk of groping him back in 2003. Consequently, the HFPA conducted a probe into the matter and clarified that this physical contact was not made with sexual intentions but lightheartedly.

The HFPA has been called out on other occasions for its many faults and has been the butt of many jokes, including Ricky Gervais, who hosted the event last year.

In 2021, Gervais bluntly said in his opening monologue, “Many talented people of colour were snubbed in major categories. There’s nothing we can do about that. The Hollywood Foreign Press are very, very racist.”

After the 2022 fiasco and a slew of allegations and scandals poised against its reputation, the HFPA has assured of its motivation to make structural changes to the organization and abide by inclusivity and diversity to give justice to the cinema. However, people still remain skeptical.
