INDIA: A mob attacked a young Muslim woman and a Hindu man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, after they finished their dinner and left a hotel, according to reports.
In Indore, a group of Muslim men surrounded and chased the couple and questioned the woman’s choice of accompanying a man from a different faith, police added.
As per police, however, seeing the mob thrashing the youth, two persons named Yash Joshi and Himanshu Patel tried to rescue him, but one of the goons attacked Yash and Himanshu with a knife and chased them.
The incident came into the limelight after the video from Indore went viral on social media, and the Bajrang Dal coordinator Tannu Sharma met the injured persons and assured them of support.
Six people were arrested by police and are being questioned in connection with other suspects. As per the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Raghuvanshi, “After alerting her parents, the woman told them she had come to have dinner with the man. She also took issue with their misbehaviour. Meanwhile, two others who had come to the couple’s aid were attacked with a knife by someone in the throng.”
Meanwhile, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan redirected the police to take strict action against those involved in harassing the couple.
At the Tukoganj police station in Indore, a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Section 307 (attempt to murder). Moreover, seven out of the accused have been identified so far, said the charge, Kamlesh Sharma.
The police team is trying to find the persons involved in the ill behaviour.
