ISRAEL/GAZA: The Israeli military stated on Thursday that Israeli fighter jets struck Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s home in Gaza.

Haniyeh’s home was “used as terrorist infrastructure and often served as a meeting point for Hamas’ senior leaders to direct terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers,” said the military.

Israel claims that Haniyeh, who resides in Qatar, was using his home as a gathering spot for Hamas. Elsewhere, the Palestinian media reports that an airstrike in the central Gaza Strip claimed the lives of almost fifty individuals.

Israel has not commented about the strike but says that it targets Hamas infrastructure and minimises civilian casualties.

On late Wednesday, Israel carried out more operations at the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, which it claims was being utilised as a Hamas base.

US President Joe Biden said that he is “mildly hopeful” about the release of the more than 200 hostages held in Gaza.

Israel started striking Gaza following Hamas’s attacks on October 7, which claimed the lives of 1,200 people, and the hostages were taken. Since then, over 11,500 people have been killed in Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry said.
