UNITED STATES: Joker is returning to wreak havoc on the screen, but this time he may be accompanied by a criminal partner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga is in early talks to feature alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker under the directorial vision of writer-director Todd Phillips.
Lady Gaga may add a second version of Harley Quinn to the big screen
Though the details of Lady Gaga’s character remain unknown, she may play Harley Quinn. Joker is well-known for his abusive love affair with Quinn. Joker’s arrival in the Arkham Asylum, where his psychiatrist, Harley Quinn, falls in love with him, marks the beginning of their tumultuous relationship. Using her as an escape, the Joker adds Quinn as his sidekick, initiating their abusive relationship.
If Lady Gaga brings Harley Quinn to the big screen, it won’t be the first time the character has appeared in a live-action film. Earlier, Margot Robbie portrayed the mischievous yet fun-loving version of Quinn alongside Jared Leto’s Joker. Suicide Squad’s portrayal of the wild combo drew mixed reviews from fans in 2016. The presence of Lady Gaga may introduce a new version of the Quinn, which will exist apart from Margot’s performance, and may draw attention to her toxic connection with the Joker.
Joker (2019) served as the most profitable R-rated DC film
The 2019 film Joker follows Arthur Fleck’s life in a tumultuous version of Batman’s birthplace. Arthur navigates the agony of economic class disparity in the heart of Gotham, which triggered his anarchist thought with the representation of revolution. At the same time, he follows his life as a stand-up comic.
Joker grossed approximately $1.074 billion on a $50-70 million budget. As a result, Joker became one of the most profitable DC and comic-based films ever made in R-rated form in 2019.
Joker also wrought its magic in India, although the film was only released in English. In India, the film grossed 22.51 crore at the box office, making it one of the year’s most successful films. The film followed a standalone depiction of the Joker, which differed from the DCEU connection. This establishes a beneficial aspect in terms of both character and box office.
