UNITED STATES: For Marvel Studios, Julius Onah, a Nigerian-American director popular for directing 2018 The Cloverfield Paradox which served as a 2018 sci-fi thriller, will direct the fourth Captain America feature.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julius Onah is now serving as a director while staff writer Dalan Musson and series creator and head writer Malcolm Spellman continue to develop the script. Anthony Mackie will play Captain America in the film, which will centre on the aftermath following the events of the Disney+ series, Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Onah’s independent film Luce received massive critical acclaim
Onah, born in Makurdi, Nigeria, enrolled in the graduate film program at NYU, where Spike Lee chose to serve as executive producer on his senior thesis film, “The Girl is in Trouble.” J.J. Abrams subsequently recruited him to direct a sci-fi space thriller centred in the executive’s Cloverfield setting, which eventually became the 2018 Netflix film “The Cloverfield Paradox.”
Despite the setback of The Cloverfield Paradox, Onah returned with the independent feature Luce, starring Tim Roth and Naomi Watts. The film focuses on Luce, a smart kid played by Kelvin Harrison Jr, who is bullied by his aggressive history professor. The story sheds light on the struggles a white couple and their adopted Black child undergo.
Onah’s directing sense introduced highly interwoven topics to the film, serving as remarkable work, and his vision, along with Harrison’s acting, received three Independent Spirit Award nominations. The film received widespread critical acclaim when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Marvel hasn’t given any details about the plot other than the director, writer, and lead actor
Even though the director and writer have been announced, there is no official title or release date for the upcoming Captain America film, which is likely to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. The plot elements are likewise unknown, as are the characters’ identities that will appear alongside Captain America. Will, the Winter Soldier, appear in the film, or will Sharon Carter’s Power Broker serve as the central antagonist? Marvel Studios have confirmed nothing.
