Keir Starmer Denies Discussions with Sue Gray in Light of Her Boris Johnson Inquiry

UNITED KINGDOM: Keir Starmer said that ‘no discussions whatsoever’ was initiated with Sue Gray amid her Partygate examination last year. An update on a Cabinet office probe would be encountered by the Labour leader with respect to Gray’s appointment as his chief of staff in March. 

The Sue Gray report into occurrences at Downing Street during the Covid pandemic played an important role in Johnson’s withdrawal as prime minister the preceding year. When it was disclosed in March that Sir Keir had decided to hire Gray as his chief of staff, Tory MPs flared up in righteous indignation.

More specifics about the situation surrounding Gray’s resignation from a senior location in Whitehall to recognize the top Labour will be demonstrated in a claim made in Parliament today. It will appear to suggest that Gray had discussions with Sir Keir regarding the appointment while working for a group advising Commons Partygate investigation, as per media reports.

According to the foreign secretary James Cleverly, such a finding would start causing Sir Keir to confront “serious questions.” Keir stated that he had no conversation with Gray during her Boris Johnson investigation.

Keir reported to a news agency fresh into the update that was expected today, “Firstly, I had no discussions with her while she was investigating Boris Johnson whatsoever.”

“I don’t believe anyone is implying that this is the case. When a senior civil servant leaves the Civil Service, there is usually a process that they must go through, and that is exactly what she is going through,” Keir stated.

Regardless of the fact that Gray’s Partygate report was completed in May, Labour has continued to insist that she was tried contacting in the fall of last year. Later that summer, Johnson was forced out of office by his own MPs. But after it became recognized that Gray was leaving to work for Labour, Johnson’s help to nurture him was the victim of a set-up.
