Lia Block Announces Partnership with ART Grand Prix and Williams Driver Academy

UNITED STATES: In a groundbreaking move for the future of female representation in motorsport, Lia Block, daughter of the late Gymkhana sensation Ken Block, is set to make waves in the world of Formula 1. The budding racing star will step into the single-seater arena with the esteemed ART Grand Prix team, marking a significant stride for the all-female F1 Academy.

Underlining a commitment to fostering talent and diversity in the sport, all 10 Formula 1 teams will designate a driver to the F1 Academy, and Lia Block becomes the second promising talent to join the ranks. McLaren has also announced the inclusion of Bianca Bustamante, who will shift from Prema to ART for her second year in the development program.

Speaking about her exciting venture, Block expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am so excited to be joining the Williams Driver Academy and competing in F1 Academy in 2024! This is something I never could have dreamed of. I can’t wait to embrace this new experience and learn as much as possible.”

Williams F1 team boss, James Vowles, welcomed Block with high praise, emphasizing her natural talent, champion mindset, and dedication to open-wheel racing. The move not only signifies a milestone for Block but also reinforces the commitment of Williams Racing to enhance female representation in motorsport.

Block, a national rallying contender since 2021, brings a wealth of diverse motorsport experience to the table. Having clinched victory in the Open Two-Wheel Drive class in the American Rally Association Championship and participated in the Extreme E championship, her journey into Formula 1 is anticipated with great excitement.

In joining the Williams Driver Academy, Lia Block stands alongside Indy NXT racer Jamie Chadwick, forming a formidable female presence in a traditionally male-dominated arena. As the 2024 season approaches, all eyes are on the talented driver as she gears up for her debut, adding a new and vibrant chapter to the evolving narrative of women in Formula 1.
