GERMANY: Mercedes-Benz, the renowned luxury car manufacturer, has announced its latest venture into the world of AI integration by testing the inclusion of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular chatbot, in its vehicles.

This development aims to further enrich the voice assistant functionality of Mercedes-Benz cars, allowing drivers to engage in more intuitive and interactive conversations while keeping their focus on the road.

Beginning June 16, Mercedes-Benz will initiate a limited beta program exclusively available in the United States. Over 900,000 vehicles equipped with the advanced MBUX infotainment system will participate in this three-month program.

The valuable insights gained during this testing phase will be instrumental in refining the voice assistant and shaping the future rollout of large language models in additional markets and languages.

To participate in the beta program, customers can join through the Mercedes Me app or simply by using the voice command, “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program.”

The integration of ChatGPT into Mercedes-Benz cars will be facilitated through the Azure OpenAI Service, leveraging the powerful capabilities of OpenAI’s extensive generative AI models and the enterprise-grade security, privacy, and reliability features of Azure.

Mercedes-Benz anticipates that this collaboration will offer users an advanced voice assistant experience that not only comprehends natural voice commands but can also engage in dynamic conversations.

Drivers will soon be able to ask the voice assistant detailed questions about their destination, seek recommendations for a new dinner recipe, or even inquire about complex topics, receiving more comprehensive responses—all while maintaining their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.

Unlike conventional voice assistants, which are typically confined to predetermined tasks and scripted responses, ChatGPT’s integration allows for greater flexibility in natural language understanding and expands the breadth of topics to which it can respond.

By harnessing the potential of large language models, Mercedes-Benz aims to elevate the conversational capabilities of its voice assistant, fostering a more interactive and personalized experience for drivers.

Mercedes-Benz’s foray into integrating ChatGPT reflects their commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and delivering cutting-edge technology to their customers.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, this pioneering collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and OpenAI paves the way for a new era of intelligent and intuitive voice control systems in cars.

The automotive world eagerly awaits the outcomes of Mercedes-Benz’s beta program, as the findings will undoubtedly shape the future direction of voice assistants in cars and redefine the way drivers interact with their vehicles.

With ChatGPT set to revolutionize the in-car experience, Mercedes-Benz reaffirms its dedication to providing state-of-the-art features that prioritize both safety and convenience for drivers around the globe.
