Minions: The Rise of Gru Surpassed the $750 Million Milestone at the Worldwide Box Office

The film's box office performance made it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2022

UNITED STATES: Minions: The Rise of Gru, the sequel to Minions 2015, embarked on a successful box office run since its premiere. The animated film was released in theatres on July 1, 2022, and it has been on a record-breaking run at the box office with phenomenal collections. 

The film picks up after Minions 2015 and begins in 1970 when Young Gru attempts to enrol in a squad of supervillains known as Vicious 6. Gru’s fate isn’t as simple as continuing a typical start, while his crazy and hilarious trip forms the centre of the story.

The computer-animated movie is produced under the banner of Illumination and distributed under the banner of Universal Pictures. Kyle Balda added his directorial vision to the hit animated feature. Matthew Fogel handed the screenplay and also penned the story along with Brain Lynch. The film ensemble voice cast includes Steve Carell, Pierre Coffin, Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Alan Arkin, and Danny Trejo.

Minions: The Rise of Gru triumphs at the box office

Minions 2 is the sequel to Minions 2015, which was a prequel spinoff to the Despicable Me film franchise. According to multiple media sources, the animated feature grossed $164 million in its first week at the United States box office. The comedy-adventure film has now surpassed the $750 million milestone at the global box office. The film’s box office performance made it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2022 and the highest-grossing animated film during the Pandemic.

In India, the animated movie also opened at the box office on July 1, 2022. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film earned roughly ₹12.62 crores, which is a respectable sum for a computer-animated movie.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Minions: The Rise of Gru presently has 70 per cent of critics’ ratings and 90 per cent of audience ratings. The animated film has an IMDB score of 6.7/10.
