BELGIUM: In the fast-paced world of Formula 1, the debate over driver talent versus car performance rages on, and former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has now entered the fray, shedding light on Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s success.

Montoya’s candid opinions underscore the pivotal role that the “best car” plays in determining a driver’s fate on the grid. Montoya’s insights come at a time when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen appears poised to secure his third successive World title. Despite Verstappen’s record-breaking feats, Montoya argues that the Dutchman’s current success is intrinsically linked to Red Bull’s technical superiority.

Underscoring his point, Montoya believes that multiple drivers on the current grid possess the potential to seize a World Championship if placed in Verstappen’s position, including the likes of Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris.

Montoya’s analysis didn’t stop at Verstappen; he also addressed the recent comments from Lewis Hamilton, who has expressed dissatisfaction with Mercedes’ competitiveness compared to Red Bull.

Montoya challenged Hamilton’s assertions, asserting that the British driver’s past successes were facilitated by being at the helm of a dominant car. “I don’t want to say that Hamilton isn’t good, on the contrary, he is a great driver. But the reality of this sport is that you have to be in the best car,” Montoya stated.

As the F1 landscape continues to evolve, Montoya’s perspectives serve as a reminder that the delicate interplay between driver skill and machine prowess ultimately shapes the championship narrative.

While Verstappen and Hamilton’s talents are undeniable, their trajectories have been profoundly influenced by the engineering marvels they’ve piloted on the track. Montoya’s words spotlight the enduring truth that in Formula 1, the “best car” remains an indispensable factor in the pursuit of greatness.
