RUSSIA: Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, visited the military headquarters in Russia in Ukraine’s eastern region and engaged in a brisk tete-a-tete with the general in charge of air troops about the war. The general in charge had a significant role in the war.

An army command meeting was attended by Putin in Kherson’s southern area, as reported by the Kremlin on Tuesday. Putin visited the eastern Luhansk region of Ukraine as well.

Russia annexed a few regions last September that included Kherson and Zaporizhia, though these areas are not under full jurisdiction as this has been made illegal by Kyiv and its partners. Bakhmut has been a vulnerable site and a pivotal point in the war that is raging between Ukraine and Russia.

General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a statement, “Currently the enemy is increasing the activity of heavy artillery and the number of air strikes, turning the city into ruins.”

A video of the visit was also circulated by the Kremlin and highlighted Putin in a heavy blue jacket boarding a helicopter to Luhansk.

The commander of the airborne troops, the commander of the “Dnieper” army group, and other senior officials briefed Russia’s leader on the conditions in the territories of Kherson and Zaporizhia, both of which Moscow has annexed.

Putin mentioned to the commanders, “It is important for me to hear your opinion on how the situation is developing, to listen to you, to exchange information.”

Putin’s right was occupied by the commander of Russian airborne troops, Mikhail Teplinsky, while Putin’s left was occupied by Colonel General Oleg Makarevich. On Sunday, British military intelligence stated that Teplinsky was given a pivotal role in the war.

The largest city that Russia has conquered since its invasion in February 2022, and the regional capital Kherson, saw Russian military withdrawal in November. In preparation for a potential Ukrainian counteroffensive, troops have subsequently started fortifying their positions on the Dnieper’s other bank.
