Riverdale’s Finale: A heartfelt farewell

In an episode that encapsulates the essence of the series, the finale of Riverdale does not disappoint, taking viewers on a poignant and mesmerizing journey. Titled “Goodbye, Riverdale,” the series bids adieu in its trademark enigmatic style.

Jumping an astonishing 67 years into the future, the episode introduces us to an octogenarian Betty (Lili Reinhart). In a heart-wrenching revelation, she learns of Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) passing at the age of 84, leaving her as the last surviving member of the Riverdale High group.

Betty published a best-seller titled “The Teenage Mystique,” and ran an advice column, “Betty’s Diary.” She moved to New York City and worked as a freelancer before launching “She Says,” a successful women’s magazine.

She never married, but adopted a daughter, Carla, and later became a grandmother to Alice. She died while in the backseat of her granddaughter’s car, while they drove back through Riverdale.

As the night unfolds, Betty drifts into slumber, only to be greeted by the spectral presence of Jughead. In this dreamlike encounter, Jughead offers Betty a chance to relive any day from her past.

Her decision is steeped in nostalgia – she chooses to revisit her final day of school, including the long-awaited party that ensued. This reverie transports us back to the 1950s storyline, a dramatic twist that characterized the show’s narrative.

Intriguingly, Betty’s memory has begun to falter, adding an emotional layer to the storyline. She eagerly embarks on a journey of rediscovery, learning the fates of her high school companions. Jughead, acting as her guide, discloses the twists and turns that shaped their lives after graduation.

Unveiling hidden truths, Betty discovers that she, Jughead, Archie (KJ Apa), and Veronica (Camila Mendes) shared a unique bond – a quad relationship that rotated their romantic affiliations nightly, forging an unbreakable connection.
