RRR: ‘Naatu Naatu’ Carve Its Way to the Musical Spot in 95th Oscars Shortlist

INDIA: Naatu Naatu RRR fans! SS Rajamouli’s directorial Pan-Indian feature continues to create ripples globally, be it at the box office or critical acclamations. The film’s Oscar campaign is going on in a globetrotting manner by collecting nominations and prestigious titles in prominent award ceremonies. 

Now, RRR has made its way to the musical category in 95th Oscars Shortlist. The highly popular Telugu song Naatu Naatu bags a spot in the prestigious award ceremony. Thus, becoming the first Indian song to be shortlisted at the Oscars.

RRR’s Naatu Naatu embarks to the Oscars 2023

95th Academy Awards is arriving on March 12, 2023, and ahead of its launch, prominent films have embarked on the Oscar race. Among such competitors, SS Rajamouli’s directorial RRR also joined the list. 

Since the film’s release on March 24, 2022, it has opened to behemoth box office numbers on its theatrical run. However, the movie didn’t stop at this; it catapulted to new heights gaining high praise from prominent Hollywood filmmakers such as James Gunn, The Russo Brothers, and many more.

Now, Academy Awards has released its shortlist on Tuesday. Oscars has unveiled the name of prominent features in 10 categories that consist of International Feature Films, Documentaries, and many more. 

RRR has bagged a slot in the Original Score category for its electrifying dance number Naatu Naatu. A total of 15 music titles from prominent films are competing in the mentioned category.

Jr NTR and Ram Charan’s energetic dance performance is competing against Rihana’s Lift Me Up from Black Panther Wakanda Forever, Weekend’s Nothing Is Lost from Avatar: The Way of Water, Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, and Ciao Papa from Guillermo del Toro’s directorial Pinocchio.

Talking about Naatu Naatu, the dance number includes the magical music direction from M. M. Keeravaani, which elevated with Chandrabose’s lyrics. Rahul Sipliguni and Kaala Bhairava provided their voices to the song that blended perfectly with Prem Rakshith’s gripping choreography.

The Telugu song Naatu Naatu has earlier proved its mettle in the musical field when it bagged nods at the Hollywood Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards. SS Rajamouli also won the Best Director Award at New York Film Critics Circle Awards.
