Sydney Thunder defeats Brisbane Heat by 53 runs to jump to the 3rd spot at the Big Bash League points table whereas Brisbane Heat is in the 2nd the last spot at the points table. In this match after winning the toss, Brisbane Heat decided to bowl first.

Sydney Thunder was off to a good start as Alex Hales and Matthew Gilkes added 55 runs in the mandatory powerplay. Mitchell Swepson gave Brisbane Heat their first breakthrough as he removed Matthew Gilkes (28) and Sydney Thunder was 55/1 after 5.5 overs.

After the fall of the first wicket, Jason Sangha came out to join Alex Hales. Hales played a good inning but he got out after scoring 35 off 26 deliveries which included 3 fours and 3 sixes and Sydney Thunder was 81/2 after 10.2 overs.

After the wicket of Alex Hales, Sam Billings came out to bat and Billings destroyed the Brisbane Heat bowling lineup with his sensational batting. Sam Billings made a 67 runs partnership with Jason Sangha.

Sam Billings scored 64 runs off just 27 deliveries which included 5 fours and 5 monstrous sixes at a strike rate of 237.04 and Jason Sangha scored 39 runs off 28 deliveries which included 3 fours and 1 six and they both helped Sydney Thunder to post a mighty target of 196/7 after 20 overs.

For Brisbane Heat, Xavier Bartlett, Mitchell Swepson, and Mark Steketee took 2 wickets each and James Bazley picked up 1 wicket.

Brisbane Heat needed a good opening partnership to chase down the target but Saqib Mahmood wrecked havoc in the Brisbane Heat batting lineup.

Saqib Mahmood picked 4 wickets in his first two overs. Brisbane Heat lost half of their side in just 3 overs. Brisbane Heat were 15/5 after 3 overs and it was looking like they won’t even cross the 50 run mark.

Tom Cooper played a good knock of 32 runs off 18 deliveries which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. His innings helped Brisbane Heat cross the 50 run mark. Soon after the wicket of Steketee, Brisbane Heat got bundled out for 143 runs in 17.3 overs. Xavier Bartlett was unbeaten at 42 runs off 29 deliveries which included 3 fours and 1 six.

For Sydney Thunder, Saqib Mahmood took 4 wickets, Tanveer Sangha took 3 wickets and Daniel Sams and Chris Green took 1 wicket each.
