PORTUGAL: Get ready for an electrifying spectacle at the 2023 World Rallycross Championship as two revamped units of the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale gear up to compete in the all-electric series. The legendary rally car will return with a zero-emissions twist, featuring nine-time World Rally Championship winner Sebastien Loeb behind the wheel.

The electrified hatchback boasts dual electric motors—one on each axle—delivering an impressive total power output of 671 horsepower, sporting a Martini-like livery. This all-wheel drive beast accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour (0–100 kilometres per hour) in a mind-boggling 1.8 seconds.

According to reports, a second Lancia Delta Integrale EV, with identical specifications, will be piloted by renowned French driver Guerlain Chicherit, known for his participation in the Dakar Rally and previous rallycross events.

Loeb expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying he is from a generation that grew up watching Lancia Deltas win in rally racing and has a weakness for the car.

French motorsport engineering firm GCK Performance is responsible for designing and manufacturing these converted rally cars. Special One Racing, the competition arm of GCK Performance, founded by Guerlain Chicherit, will drive the cars.

The electric Lancia Delta Integrale EVs debuted last November at the renowned Nurburgring before the company showcased them at the Charade Super Show in France, albeit with a black paint job.

Since last year, the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s top class has transitioned to being fully electric. The RX1e cars, including the electrified Lancia Delta Integrale, produce an impressive 680 horsepower and 649 pounds-feet of torque. The action-packed 2023 World RX season will kick off tomorrow in Montalegre, Portugal.

It’s important to note that the Lancia Delta EV competing in the championship is distinct from the series-production model, slated to debut in 2028 on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform.

Be prepared for an adrenaline-fueled showdown as the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale roars back to life, championing electric power and showcasing cutting-edge advancements in rally racing.
