UNITED STATES: Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have been officially postponed once again. The most anticipated DC films were supposed to be released on their scheduled dates, but it appears that fans will have to wait longer as the release dates for both films have been pushed back.

Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2 bagged new release dates

According to reports, the upcoming DC projects, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are subject to new release dates. Shazam 2, which was earlier set to release on December 21, 2022, will now be released in theatres on March 17, 2023.

Aquaman 2 was supposed to hit theatres on March 17, 2023, but it has now been pushed back nine months. The upcoming film will be released on December 25, 2023. This means DC fans will have to wait much longer to witness their favourite superhero in action.

David F. Sandberg revealed the reason behind Shazam 2 delays

Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has also addressed the fans on Twitter regarding the delay. The filmmaker tweeted, “While I’m an impatient bastard who wants people to see it as soon as possible (the film will be fully done in just a few weeks), the move makes sense since Avatar was taking all IMAX/PLF screens. Fury of the Gods is a big movie & should be seen big!”

According to the tweet, Shazam 2 appears to have been delayed due to James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. The release dates of both films coincided, resulting in the change of Shazam’s scheduled date.

Another major reason for the delays of Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2 could be the recently announced merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. Though this isn’t the first time both films’ release dates have been pushed back, most of the DC films set to release this year were pushed back to new release dates in March.
