The chipset manufacturer claims that users can experience faster natural language processing, multi-language translation, and advanced AI camera features thanks to an upgraded Qualcomm Hexagon Processor.
The first Cognitive ISP is included in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and uses an AI neural network to enhance photos and videos in real-time using semantic segmentation automatically.
The upgrade makes the camera aware of faces, facial features, hair, clothes, the sky, and other things in context. Due to the given specifications, it can optimize individual details and receive individualized professional image tuning.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first Snapdragon chip that includes an AVI codec with support for 8K HDR video playback of up to 60fps.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will display the new Snapdragon Elite Gaming features for the first time. The features include real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing that will deliver realistic light, reflections, and illuminations to mobile games.
A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has a 25% performance increment thanks to the upgraded Qualcomm Adreno GPU. The Qualcomm Kryo CPU claims to add another 40% more power efficiency.
Dynamic head tracking and spatial audio will also be supported, allowing for more immersive gaming and multimedia experiences. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is compatible with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 5G.
Chris Patrick, SVP and GM of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 delivers ground-breaking AI and unparalleled connectivity. He added that the champion-level gameplay would enable consumers to enhance their device experience.
Commercial devices will receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets by the end of 2022. Global OEMs and brands like Asus ROG, Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Red Magic, Redmi, Sharp, Sony Corporation, Vivo, Xiaomi, Meizu, and ZTE will adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will also be available on Oppo’s next-generation premium flagship smartphone, the Find X.
