Rupert Sanders, widely known for his work in Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) and Ghost in the Shell (2017), will film The Crow. Edward R. Pressman and Malcolm Gray will produce the film, and both were engaged in the original’s production.

The Crow is based on the comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr

The Crow is a supernatural superhero comic book series about an unfortunate man named Eric Draven. When he and his fiancée Shelly are viciously assaulted by street thugs, his love life is ripped apart. Eric gets shot in the head during the assault, paralyzing his body and allowing him to only watch the tragedy unfold with Shelly. She is then raped and fatally shot in the head.

After waffling between death and life, Eric succumbs to mental torment as a result of witnessing the atrocity.

The tale takes an unexpected turn when Eric is resurrected by a crow seeking vengeance for the murders. He now leverages his newly acquired abilities to torture the assassins who have made his life a living hell.

James O’Barr based this supernatural vengeance-driven comic book story on his own experience dealing with the death of his fiancée at the hands of a drunk driver. The comic book was first published in 1989 under the banner of Caliber Comics.

The tragedy of Brandon Lee

The comic book remained so prominent as a result of its unique premise and the narrative’s touch of realism that it generated the first live-action version in 1994. The Crow (1994), directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee as the title character, proved a critical success.

Brandon Lee, the son of famed actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, was tragically died during the production of The Crow, just as he was reaching the pinnacle of his career with his critically acclaimed debut.

Multiple delays of The Crow

Even though the film reboot was announced a long time ago, the first reboot was announced in 2008, with Stephen Norrington scheduled to direct. However, it was canceled due to technical difficulties with the film.

In 2016, Jason Momoa was appointed in the lead role, while Corin Hardy was announced as the director. However, Momoa departed the project in 2018, and it has been on hold since. Finally, the reboot is taking place, albeit the release date has yet to be determined.
