UAE Unveils Regulatory Body to Govern Commercial Gaming and Lotteries

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: The UAE has recently unveiled the creation of a new governmental entity known as the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA). The authority will introduce a regulatory framework for commercial gaming and the national lottery.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) shared the announcement on Sunday, September 3rd.

As per a news agency, Kevin Mullally, a well-known regulator with over 30 years of expertise in both domestic and international gaming regulation, has been appointed as CEO.

In a statement regarding his appointment, Kevin expressed his excitement at being named the GCGRA’s initial CEO. He also stated that he is looking forward to developing a strong regulatory body and framework for the UAE’s lottery and gaming business with his experienced colleagues.

The GCGRA is supported by a team of internationally recognised leaders who possess extensive knowledge in overseeing and ensuring the effectiveness, safety, and responsible management of the gaming industry, adhering to top-notch international standards.

WAM said that the team’s responsibility will be creating a “well-regulated gaming environment, ensuring that all participants adhere to strict guidelines and comply with the highest standards.”

In 2023, it was revealed that Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah would be the future location of the renowned Wynn Resorts from Las Vegas, with plans for the resort to officially debut in early 2027.

The opening of Wynn Resorts, a renowned Las Vegas establishment on Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, has generated significant buzz. This will mark the brand’s inaugural venture into the Middle East, slated for an early 2027 debut.

The brand’s inaugural beachfront integrated resort, a multi-billion dollar project, will offer stunning views of the Arabian Gulf. It will feature 1,500 rooms, approximately 24 dining and lounge options, and a wide range of entertainment offerings, including a commercial gaming centre.

The resort is expected to cost an astounding USD 3.9 billion (Dhs 14.32 billion). Construction work has already started ahead of hotels opening in 2027.
