UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: The UAE is set to observe Emirati Women’s Day on August 28, 2023, in recognition of the remarkable achievements of women in the country.

Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, who holds prominent roles within various women’s organizations in the UAE, officially designated March 8 as Emirati Women’s Day. This year’s theme, “We Collaborate for Tomorrow,” aligns with the broader national theme of “Today for Tomorrow,” emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to addressing sustainability concerns on a global scale.

In terms of gender equality, the UAE has consistently demonstrated its commitment to progress. The country secured the top spot in the Arab world and the eleventh position globally in the 2022 Gender Inequality Index by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This accomplishment marks the third consecutive year that the UAE has surpassed other Middle Eastern and North African nations in this ranking.

The UAE’s accomplishments extend to other key reports as well. It led the Middle East and North Africa region in the World Bank’s “Women, Business, and the Law Report 2023” and also excelled in the 2022 Global Gender Gap Report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The UAE’s dedication to women’s participation in various spheres is evident in its legislative efforts. With the enactment and amendment of over 20 laws, the country has worked to enhance women’s status, safeguard their rights, and bolster its own international competitiveness.

These legal changes encompass aspects such as employment, protection, political engagement, personal status, wages, financial transactions, marriage, entrepreneurship, property ownership, and pension provisions.

An area where the UAE particularly stands out is women’s representation in parliament, ranking first globally in this regard according to the Global Competitiveness Index and the WEF’s Global Gender Gap Report.

Emirati Women’s Day serves as a meaningful occasion to celebrate the achievements of women in the UAE, while also highlighting the nation’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and social progress.
