India. Mumbai, Maharashtra. According to sources, Uber has shut down its Mumbai office but will continue to provide services for riders. The shut-down is said to be a part of its restructuring efforts during the pandemic.

In May, Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshai, informed employees about the decision to close nearly 45 offices globally. Sources said the decision to shut down the Mumbai office is part of global restructuring. Services for riders in the city will remain uninterrupted.

The ride-hailing giant is also moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters out of Singapore in the next 12 months, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rattle its business.

Uber released a statement in May regarding the layoff of 600 employees (including its driver and rider support operations) in India as the business has taken a major hit amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It is yet to be determined if the closure of the Mumbai office will also include more layoffs.
