20 Drowns While Fleeing as Bandits Attacks in Niger

NIGERIA. NIGER STATE: About 20 persons, including women and children, have been reportedly drowned due to a boat mishap while fleeing bandits’ attack in River Shioro, Niger State, North Central Nigeria.

The victims of the Shayita community residents under Munya Local Government Area of Niger state are running for safety as they sighted the presence of bandits on motorcycles numbering in the hundreds coming into the community.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred while about ten boats took off from Shayita, heading to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Gwada and Zumba through river Shiroro loaded with the locals attempting to escape for the safety of their lives as one capsized. The boat is said to be conveying about 60 persons, each loaded with the victim’s log. 

As usual, the bandits came into the village to loot foodstuffs, rustle cattle, kill innocent lives, kidnap others, and take away other valuable items.

Meanwhile, about 23 persons have been killed and injured in a fresh attack in Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State.   

Similarly, a report also states that shooters have invaded a Low-cost housing estate in Zaria local government in Kaduna state and abducted an unspecified number of people, including a Custom Officer.

Two days later, shooters attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train, where passengers were killed, several others were injured, and others were missing.
