Ferrari May Reportedly Sack Mattia Binotto Following Ferrari’s Dismal 2022 F1 Season

0

UNITED KINGDOM: Ferrari is considering firing its Formula 1 team principal, Mattia Binotto, after the team’s underwhelming performance in 2022. Despite having the fastest car in the initial races, Ferrari’s Formula 1 title challenge unraveled due to poor reliability and blaring strategic blunders.

According to Italian media, there has been increasing pressure placed on Ferrari to begin making personnel changes to address the most recent slump after a season filled with mistakes and missed opportunities.

Frederic Vasseur may replace Binotto

Ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Ferrari had shot down the rumours that Mattia Binotto would quit the team at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season. When asked about his future in Ferrari, Binotto could not categorically state that he would lead the team again in 2023. He said, “Obviously, it is not down to me to decide.”

However, speculation that Alfa Romeo chief Frederic Vasseur will replace Binotto next season has resurfaced recently, putting Binotto back in the crosshairs.

The perception that Mattia Binotto’s time with Ferrari is coming to an end is now being reinforced once more by the Italian media.

According to sources associated with Charles Leclerc’s entourage, the final touches to an exit agreement are only “hours away.”

Additionally, according to the report, the primary reason for Binotto’s departure was his increasingly sour relationship with Ferrari president John Elkann, who no longer believes that Binotto is qualified for the position.

Alfa Romeo’s Vasseur is the leading clear stand-apart possibility to supplant Binotto at this stage, the report adds, as McLaren’s Andreas Seidl is accepted to have previously turned down the job.

Mattia Binotto had said during a previous interview that he was relaxed regarding the speculations since he could have an open discussion with the Ferrari bosses. He felt that under his leadership, Ferrari had fulfilled its ambition to be back at the top of the rankings and compete at the front of the grid in 2022.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Valencia’s Goal Helps Ecuador Draw 1-1 against Netherlands

0

QATAR: In the second match of their 2022 World Cup Group A campaign, Ecuador came back to tie Netherlands 1-1 and eliminate hosts Qatar.

Ecuador’s Enner Valencia scored his 5th goal in the 6th match

Netherlands took an early lead thanks to the second goal of the tournament scored by Cody Gakpo. However, Ecuador responded with a goal from Enner Valencia early in the second half.

The previous West Ham striker scored his third of the competition. However, there were worries for him later in the game as he injured his knee and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.

As a result, the Netherlands must win Tuesday’s final group match against Qatar to advance, while Ecuador will proceed to the last 16 only if they avoid defeat against Senegal.

Gakpo scored the Netherlands’ first goal against Senegal with six minutes left, but it took him only six minutes against Ecuador, a team that had kept seven consecutive clean sheets.

The forward for PSV Eindhoven received Davy Klaasen’s pass on the edge of the box, took two touches to tee himself up, and then slammed one into the near post of Hernan Galindez.

However, after 49 minutes, Noppert managed to palm Estupian’s shot away to Valencia. The striker took advantage of the empty goalpost and scored the equalising goal. The VAR checked the goal for offside, but Valencia was comfortably onside.

In the 59th minute, Gonzalo Plata received the ball in the box and thundered a shot off the crossbar before it bounced clear, almost completing the turnaround for the South Americans. The ball comprehensively beat Noppert.

However, Ecuador received genuine concern at the end of an action-packed second half of the game due to Valencia’s injury.

QATAR: Despite Mohammed Muntari scoring Qatar’s first World Cup finals goal, the host nation fell 1-3 to Senegal at the Al Thumama Stadium on Friday, and as a result, they are in danger of missing out on the tournament.

Qatar’s critical error lead to Senegal’s miraculous victory

Qatar will become the first team mathematically eliminated from the competition if the Netherlands defeats Ecuador, who defeated Qatar in the tournament’s opening match, later on Friday.

The nerves from the premiere night game were nowhere to be seen as Qatar immediately took on Senegal. Qatar seemed to have obtained an opportunity for a penalty when Ismaila Sarr roughly pushed Akram Afif over.

The Spanish match official Antonio Mateu waved away the appeal from Qatar players, and the Video Collaborator Ref (VAR) did not intercede.

Senegal required either a miraculous moment or a catastrophic error from Qatar to break the deadlocked game. Senegal got their moment of miracle and Qatari defender Boualem Khoukhi made a critical error.

Khoukhi fell to the ground after failing to make proper contact with the ball to clear Krepin Diatta’s routine low pass into the box.

The 26-year-old striker, Diatta, took advantage of Khoukhi’s sloppy effort, and he smashed the ball into the net to give Senegal the lead.

Famara Diedhou scored the second goal for Senegal in the 48th minute. He smashed in a brilliant glancing header from an Ismail Jakobs corner as the Qatari crowd in the Al Thumama Stadium began to diminish slightly at the start of the second half of the game.

With a header from Ismail Mohamad’s cross in the 78th, Muntari made up for Qatar’s deficit, but Senegal substitute Bamba Dieng scored his team’s third to increase his team’s lead over Qatar.

The defeat sent Qatar plunging to the bottom of Group A with no points; meanwhile, the other teams all have three points each.

Revamped Lamborghini Urus Performante Launches in India

0

INDIA: Lamborghini India has introduced the lighter and faster Urus Performante in the Indian market.

Lamborghini Urus buyers can expect a more purposeful buying experience from the performance car manufacturer. It is important to note that the Lamborghini Urus Performante arrives in our country shortly after its August debut worldwide.

According to Lamborghini, the new Urus version demonstrated its ability on both paved and dirt roads. It set a new official record by breaking the previous 2018 record of 10:49.902 for production SUVs by covering 4,302 metres in 10:32.064 seconds at Pikes Peak.

Sharad Agarwal, Head of Lamborghini India, claimed that Urus has been instrumental in breaking through to new markets and driving growth for the brand in India. He termed the Ursus a “true game changer.” He mentioned that Urus had set a new sales record for Lamborghini in the local market, delivering over 200 units.

The Urus drove through the Umling La Pass at 19,300 feet above sea level, thus setting a new world record for being driven on the highest motorable road in the world.

A new level of lightweight and aerodynamic design provides a sportier and more engaging driving experience for this super SUV. It holds the driving elements and adaptability inseparable from solid Lamborghini DNA while increasing present expectations “for entertainment only to drive” execution and detailed looks.

Lamborghini has introduced several aesthetic changes to the Performante, including a bumper and bonnet design that emphasise the Performante’s super sports heritage. Due to its extensive use of composite materials, the Urus Performante has the most carbon fibre components.

The Lamborghini Urus Performante also offers an option for a roof made of carbon fibre. The Urus Performante’s newly designed rear spoiler also boosts the vehicle’s rear downforce by 38%.

The Lamborghini Urus Performante has brand-new steel springs that lower the chassis by 20 millimetres and widen the wheel track by 16 millimetres. Over these wider carbon fibre wheel arches are new lightweight wheels with titanium bolts and specially developed Pirelli tyres that are available as options.

With a best-in-class weight-to-power ratio and a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.3 seconds, the Performante is lighter by 47 kg. The Urus Performante has a top speed of 306 kilometres per hour and produces 850 Nm of torque between 2,300 and 4,500 rpm.

Mercedes, Ferrari, and Other Teams Confirmed for Off-season F1 Test by Pirelli

0

UNITED KINGDOM: As it continues developing new tyres for dry and wet conditions, Pirelli will collaborate with teams over the winter to test them with F1 cars this year.

On Tuesday, Yas Marina hosted the final group test for Formula One. However, between now and the start of the following season, teams will take part in additional tests individually or in pairs.

From December 3 to 4, Alfa Romeo will conduct the initial test at Paul Ricard using wet and intermediate compound tires. Two days later, AlphaTauri will test slick tyres at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portimo, Portugal, on December 14 and 15, while Ferrari will use its Fiorano test track.

There will be no running in January, but Paul Ricard will host a second test for the first four days of February. Before AlphaTauri takes over and runs wet-weather tyres for the final two days, Mercedes will use slick tyres for the first two days.

Finally, Mercedes will join Aston Martin for additional slick tyre testing at Jerez on February 7 and 8.

Only half of the ten F1 teams will attend Pirelli’s tyre tests. Simone Berra, Pirelli’s chief F1 engineer, said that only some teams have responded to the company’s query about their availability.

Recently, the performance of Pirelli’s wet weather tyres in extreme conditions has become a topic of discussion.

The Japanese Grand Prix has to be postponed due to rain and the subsequent decrease in visibility as spray emanates from cars.

The FIA said that analysis of tyre performance in wet weather conditions is ongoing between the FIA Technical Department and Pirelli in a subsequent investigation into an incident that occurred during the race.

The final F1 test in Jerez will be the last official outing for this year’s cars before the 2023 models are shown off in pre-season testing in Bahrain from February 23 to 25.

The Pirelli winter tyre development tests, coordinated with F1, do not take up any of the teams’ allotted annual time for filming and testing.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Portugal Prevails in Extra Time Thriller against Ghana

0

QATAR: With a 3-2 victory over Ghana at Stadium 974, Portugal kicked off their World Cup campaign with quick goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao.

Portugal activated the victory gear with Ronaldo’s historic shot

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty in the 65th minute to give his team the lead. He became the first male player to score in five different FIFA World Cups.

Ghana’s Andre Ayew equalized in the 73rd minute, but Portugal responded quickly with goals from Felix and Leao in the 78th and 80th minutes, respectively. Osman Bukari’s late effort made things interesting, but Fernando Santos’ team was able to weather the storm.

Bruno Fernandes sent Ronaldo through on goal in the 10th minute, giving Portugal an early chance. However, Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi was able to deflect the forward’s poor first touch. The captain of Portugal attempted to head in a goal from the highest position three minutes later, but he missed his target.

Ronaldo kicked the ball into the nets in the 31st minute after fending off the challenge from Alexander Djiku. He kicked the ball past Ati-Zigi, but the whistle was blown for a foul on the Ghana defender, denying Ronaldo a goal.

At the start of the second half, Ghana engaged in more offensive play. In the 55th minute, Mohammed Kudus attempted to shock his team by shooting wide of Diogo Costa’s left post.

After being brought down by Mohamed Salisu, Ronaldo finally scored from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, making World Cup history in the process.

However, in the 73rd minute, Ghana responded when Ayew converted from close range after Kudus’ low cross deflected onto his path. The goal sent the vocal Ghanaian support into delirium.

However, Ghana’s joy was short-lived. Felix put Portugal back in front after he calmly scored past Ati-Zigi five minutes later from a pass by Fernandes that broke through Ghana’s defence

Leao, the AC Milan winger, scored his first goal for Portugal. He side-footed a Fernandes pass into the nets a few moments later to increase his team’s lead. Portugal appeared to be on their way to victory, but Bukari’s header in the 89th minute raised the stakes for both teams.

Costa nearly opened the chance for Ghana to score an equalizer in the game’s dying moments. The goalkeeper rolled the ball out to the sneaking Inaki Williams in stoppage time. The striker slipped on his stride and missed the opportunity to score the goal, giving Portugal a 3-2 win.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Uruguay Vs South Korea Match Ends in Goalless Stalemate

QATAR: Uruguay’s first 2022 FIFA World Cup Group H match against South Korea ended in a goalless draw on Thursday. Uruguay’s defender, Diego Godin, and midfielder Federico Valverde hit the crossbar in failed attempts for a goal. South Korea held the South Americans to a 0-0 draw.

Uruguay lost the winning chance with Diego Godin’s missed shot

South Korea started the game with a lot of intention and effort to attack, but they lacked a clinical edge in front of the goal. After 34 minutes, Moon-Hwan Kim found Ui-Jo Hwang free in the box, but he only managed to shoot over the crossbar. The missed chance was their best opportunity for a goal in the first half.

Diego Godin rose highest at a corner just before the break, and Uruguay should have scored, but his header hit the post and bounced clear. Federico Valverde’s shot at the goal from outside the box. The ball hit the outside of the woodwork toward the end. Heung-Min Son went up to the other end of the field and lashed out the ball from a distance.

Several Premier League stars were on display at the Education City Stadium, but Facundo Pellistri’s name stood out on the roster. The 20-year-old winger has not yet made a senior United appearance, but Uruguay coach Diego Alonso gave him a start and his eighth cap.

Pellistri, who played in a front three with Nunez and Suarez, was dynamic at times but failed to create an impression in his 88-minute stay. It remains to be seen if Alonso persists with Pellistri for the next game or utilises Edinson Cavani’s experience instead.

Interestingly, according to statistics, it has been 465 minutes since Uruguay conceded a goal in the World Cup group stage, and this is their fifth consecutive clean sheet.

Following the goalless tie, Uruguay will play with Portugal and South Korea will play with Ghana in their second group game on Monday.

Daniel Ricciardo Returns to Red Bull for the 2023 F1 Season

0

UNITED KINGDOM: Red Bull has confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo will return to the team as their third driver for the 2023 F1 season.

McLaren terminated Daniel Ricciardo’s contract earlier in the year and declared that Oscar Piastri would race for them next year. The future of Daniel Ricciardo was uncertain for the last few months of the 2022 season after the announcements made over the mid-season break.

Daniel Ricciardo began considering taking a year off from Formula One and a possible role as a reserve driver for a leading team because no race seat piqued his interest.

Red Bull leaders Helmut Marko and Christian Horner confirmed that the finalised deal was close at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, despite speculations that Daniel Ricciardo and Mercedes were in negotiations.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will be Red Bull’s race drivers. Red Bull has earmarked the eight-time Grand Prix winner for specific duties. Ricciardo raced for Red Bull between 2014 and 2018, winning seven races.

Ricciardo will assist the team with simulator work and as a test driver. He will also drive previous Red Bull cars for commercial activities.

Daniel Ricciardo left Red Bull and went to Renault for the 2019 F1 season. The team subtly mentioned his departure in the announcement.

Red Bull, in its statement, said that it regards the Australian at a high level despite Ricciardo’s lacklustre performance at Renault and McLaren after he departed from Red Bull at the end of 2018.

Red Bull adds that his additional knowledge and expertise in Formula One is an advantage to the team.

In Abu Dhabi, Marko said that Ricciardo would share the reserve driver role with Red Bull Junior driver Liam Lawson. Daniel Ricciardo has expressed a desire not to attend all races in 2023.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said that the team was ecstatic over Daniel’s return to the side. He was full of praise for the 33-year-old’s character and talent.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Spain Crushes Costa Rica 7-0 with a Tiki-taka Masterclass

QATAR: In the second Group E match of the day, Spain displayed a masterclass in the Tiki-taka strategy, which helped them demolish Costa Rica 7-0 in the game.

Spain dominated the game with 83% ball possession

After a beautiful pass from Gavi, Dani Olmo scored in the 11th minute, beating Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas. The goal gave Spain an early lead. Marco Asensio doubled the lead 11 minutes later with a first-time shot, and Ferran Torres scored a penalty kick to make it 3-0 at halftime.

At the Al Thumama Stadium, the Spanish squad played with flamboyance. With their overwhelming 537 passes compared to Costa Rica’s 73, the Spanish outfield put Costa Rica to sleep.

Spain also became the first team since 1966 to complete 500 passes during the first half of the FIFA World Cup match. The team had an opportunity to make it 2-0 before halftime when Busquets’ backheel found the 19-year-old Pedri, but Pedri’s effort missed the mark.

With the assistance of Gavi, Torres made up for it in the second half. Torres scored past the Costa Rica goalkeeper after receiving a sharp cutback from young Gavi, who is only 18 years of age.

Spain became the first European team to feature two teenagers in a World Cup match since Bulgaria used Jechev and Sokolov against England in 1962. Both Pedri and Gavi started the game.

The Spanish team made more history when Gavi, who was 18 years old and 110 days old, became the youngest player ever to play for Spain in a major international tournament.

Soon after, Luis Enrique decided to replace Torres with Alvaro Morata. Torres was one goal away from scoring a hat-trick. Gavi joined the goal-scorer’s list in the 74th minute and became Spain’s youngest World Cup goal scorer.

Alejandro Balde made an exciting run in the middle of the field before sliding the ball past the Costa Rica goalkeeper. Morata won possession and passed it to Gavi, who volleyed a beautiful shot into the bottom corner after Navas dived toward his feet.

Morata and Carlos Soler made sure that Spain won the game, their biggest World Cup win ever.
