SPAIN: Carlos Sainz Jr. has received interest from Audi F1 for a potential move ahead of their 2026 entry into the sport. However, the primary focus remains on securing an extended deal with Ferrari.

The 28-year-old driver’s name has been frequently linked with a switch to German automotive powerhouse Audi, which is set to make its Formula 1 debut in 2026. While this prospect might intrigue many, Sainz Jr. is currently concentrating on extending his tenure with Ferrari beyond the 2024 season.

Sainz Jr. is at the midpoint of a two-year contract he signed with Ferrari in 2022, and discussions about the future are in progress for both the driver and his teammate Charles Leclerc.

The negotiations with Leclerc, a Monégasque driver, seem to have taken precedence, but this doesn’t mean Sainz Jr. is out of the equation. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has affirmed their intention to initiate talks about a new contract soon.

Despite the ongoing Ferrari discussions, the possibility of a move to Audi F1 is still open. The connection becomes apparent through former McLaren chief Andreas Seidl, now leading Audi’s Formula 1 endeavors. Sainz Jr.’s links to Seidl from their time at McLaren could play a role in the interest shown by Audi.

Sainz Jr.’s father, Carlos Sainz Sr., who is both his long-term agent and a renowned rally driver, revealed that contact has been made with Audi F1. He highlighted Audi’s strong determination to excel quickly in the sport, commending Seidl’s appreciation for his son’s capabilities.

While the allure of Audi’s entry into Formula 1 is undeniable, Sainz Sr. emphasized that the immediate focus lies on securing an extension with Ferrari. The driver’s wish to know his future beyond 2024 is a priority, ensuring he enters the 2024 season with clarity.

Injured MotoGP Star Alex Rins to Miss Catalan GP as Recovery Continues

SPAIN: Six-time MotoGP race winner Alex Rins is set to sit out the upcoming Catalan Grand Prix as his recovery from a serious leg injury sustained during the Italian GP sprint race continues.

The unfortunate crash occurred back in June, resulting in a badly broken right leg and subsequent surgery for the LCR Honda CASTROL rider. Despite initial hopes of a swift recovery, Rins’ progress has been slower than anticipated, with nerve healing in his foot becoming a key concern.

Since the accident, Rins has been absent from the racing circuit, missing out on the last five rounds. With the Catalan GP at Barcelona on the horizon, the LCR Honda team has decided to keep Rins on the sidelines for further recovery.

His position will once again be taken by fellow compatriot Iker Lecuona, who has been Rins’ stand-in since the Dutch GP.

The LCR team delivered a brief statement confirming the substitution: “LCR Honda CASTROL rider Alex Rins is making solid progress to be on track soon. However, he’ll miss the Catalan Grand Prix and will be replaced by compatriot Iker Lecuona.”

Rins’ absence has prevented the 2023 MotoGP grid from being complete on the track since the Portuguese GP’s FP2 session. Honda’s challenging year has been marked by Rins’ victory in the Americas GP in April, which remains their sole triumph.

Adding to the disruption, Rins made a mid-season announcement during the summer break, revealing his departure from Honda to join Yamaha at the end of the year.

As Rins’ recovery timeline remains uncertain, attention turns to the Misano test day following the San Marino GP, offering a suitable opportunity to assess his progress. In the meantime, LCR Honda will see Johann Zarco take Rins’ place for the 2024 season, while Lecuona’s future is speculated to continue with Honda in WSBK.

Despite ongoing injury challenges, Rins expressed his commitment to fulfilling his 2023 season duties with Honda during a recent media appearance at the Austrian GP, demonstrating his dedication to the sport and his team.

UNITED STATES: AMD has officially introduced two new powerful additions to its esteemed Radeon RX 7000 series: the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT. The grand revelation took place at the highly anticipated Gamescom 2023 event held in Germany. 

These cutting-edge GPUs, harnessed with AMD’s innovative Navi 32 GPU architecture, promise to redefine the gaming experience by effortlessly accommodating the demands of the latest titles at 1440p (2K) resolution.

Marking a significant stride in the realm of mid-range graphics cards, these dynamic offerings are scheduled to hit the market on September 6. The imminent launch will be closely followed by the much-anticipated Hypr-RX-enabled drivers from the tech giant. 

What’s more, the debut of these graphic powerhouses aligns perfectly with the release date of Bethesda’s forthcoming space-themed action RPG, Starfield. As a cherry on top, purchasers of the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT or RX 7700 XT will be granted free access to this highly anticipated game.

Diving into the specifications, the RX 7800 XT boasts an impressive configuration of 60 compute units, ray accelerators, and a substantial 16GB of VRAM. Its counterpart, the RX 7700 XT, slightly toned down but equally potent, features 54 compute units and ray accelerators, coupled with 12GB of GDDR6 memory.

Considering power efficiency, the RX 7800 XT is rated at a consumption of 263W, while the RX 7700 XT settles at a more conservative 245W. Wallet-conscious gamers will find the pricing enticing as well, with the RX 7800 XT retailing at $499 and the RX 7700 XT at $449.

These newcomers are poised to lock horns with NVIDIA’s RTX 4070 and 4060Ti, providing gamers with a tantalizing choice. Adding to the excitement, AMD also unveiled details about the upcoming FSR3 image scaling technology. 

Unlike its NVIDIA counterpart, DLSS, FSR3 boasts wider compatibility, catering to Radeon 5000, 6000, and 7000 series GPUs, along with support for NVIDIA’s 20-series, 30-series, and 40-series cards.

While specifics about FSR3’s widespread availability remain unknown, early adopters can anticipate its incorporation in titles like Immortals of Aveum and Forspoken, followed by games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Black Myth: Wukong in the future.

Leading tech analyst Dan Howley, the tech editor for Yahoo Finance, delves into the significance of Netflix’s foray into the gaming landscape. The initial phase of this initiative showcases Netflix’s commitment to expanding its gaming horizons, as the platform has already incorporated mobile games onto its mobile platforms. 

Subscribers who access Netflix on their smartphones are now greeted not only by movies and shows but also by a selection of games. The novelty of Netflix’s offering lies in its evolution from a mere streaming platform to a multifaceted entertainment hub. Users can now transform their TVs and computers into gaming consoles by utilizing the Netflix app and website. 

Although the service is currently undergoing limited testing, a select group of members in Canada and the UK can already access the games directly on their TVs, with plans to introduce PC and Mac support shortly.

The gaming experience on Netflix is characterized by accessibility and simplicity. At present, the platform offers two games for streaming: the indie hit “Oxenfree” and “Molehew’s Mining Adventure.” 

To enhance user convenience, Netflix has introduced a gamepad mobile app for controlling games on TVs, eliminating the need for additional hardware. PC and Mac users can employ the traditional keyboard and mouse for input.

While Netflix has previously flirted with gaming, its journey into streaming gameplay offers a novel approach. Unlike competitors, who often require separate purchases or subscriptions for gaming services, Netflix’s gaming endeavor is seamlessly integrated into its existing ecosystem.

The gaming industry has witnessed a surge in game streaming services over the years, with varying degrees of success. Google’s Stadia, introduced in 2019, was eventually discontinued this year. 

In contrast, Xbox’s Game Pass service has gained traction by offering streaming as an alternative for subscribers. The allure of accessibility without pricey consoles or PCs is countered by potential issues like input lag and visual glitches associated with streaming technology.

As Netflix takes this bold stride into the gaming realm, the industry watches closely, pondering whether the streaming giant can carve a niche and redefine interactive entertainment.

The film’s narrative unfolds in two parts, with the first installment titled “Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire.” Recognising the expanse of the storyline, Netflix has charted a unique course, opting to release the second part, “Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver,” on April 19, 2024.

The decision to split the film came as a strategic response to its extensive runtime, which spans approximately three hours. Interestingly, this choice defied Netflix’s film chairman Scott Stuber’s notion that movies under two hours garner higher viewership.

“Rebel Moon” marks Zack Snyder’s foray into the realm of space-themed science fiction. Set in a serene colony on the edge of a distant galaxy, the movie navigates the transformation of a once peaceful settlement into a battleground.

The oppressive forces of Regent Balisarius threaten its existence, prompting the colony’s inhabitants to rally for survival. At the forefront is Kora, portrayed by Sofia Boutella, a young and enigmatic messenger with a complex past. In a remarkable turn of events, the qualifying session was punctuated by two red flag interruptions during the Q3 segment, adding a layer of unpredictability to the proceedings. 

Lando Norris, George Russell, and Alex Albon all put in outstanding performances to match Verstappen’s blistering pace, earning them spots on the first and second rows of the grid.

UNITED STATES: SpaceX successfully launched the Crew-7 mission today, sending a multinational team of astronauts hurtling towards the International Space Station (ISS). The Crew-7 quartet, hailing from Denmark, Japan, Russia, and the United States, took off atop a pristine SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at 3:27 a.m. EDT.

The astronauts’ ride to the ISS will be the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule Endurance, embarking on a journey of approximately 30 hours. Once they rendezvous with the orbital lab on Sunday morning, the crew will engage in an extensive six-month tenure dedicated to scientific research and station upkeep as part of Expeditions 69 and 70.

Commander Jasmin Moghbeli, leading the Crew-7 mission, expressed unity among the diverse crew, stating, “We may have four crewmembers on board from four different nations: Denmark, Japan, Russia, and the United States, but we’re a united team with a common mission.”

A remarkable feat of engineering, the Falcon 9 rocket’s first stage executed a seamless shutdown and separation before performing a successful return to Earth. Touching down about 7.5 minutes post-launch, the booster’s landing marked a significant milestone for reusability.

While the Crew Dragon Endurance marks its third journey to space after previous missions, the launch did encounter a minor hiccup in the form of a nitrogen tetroxide leak during the countdown. Swift action by SpaceX engineers ensured the issue was resolved mere minutes before liftoff.

The mission holds additional significance as European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, from Denmark, becomes the first ESA astronaut to assume the role of pilot as part of a Dragon crew. The crew’s choice of mascot, a cuddly three-toed sloth representing their journey into space and humorously chosen to reflect Mogensen’s deliberate pace in leaving the house, served to highlight their sense of camaraderie.

The Jio Bharat phone, resembling a classic feature phone with a physical keypad, will be up for grabs starting August 28 at noon on Amazon with an enticing price tag of Rs 999, ensuring affordability at its core. The device will also be available through authorized retail outlets.

Manufactured by Delhi-based Karbonn Mobiles, the Jio Bharat phone boasts a 1.77-inch QVGA TFT display and supports essential features such as HD calling, UPI payments, and access to OTT services like Jio Cinema. 

Despite its modest design, the phone packs a punch with a replaceable 1000mAh battery that guarantees up to 24 hours of usage on a single charge. It caters to various entertainment needs with a 0.3 MP camera, flashlight, and FM radio, while also facilitating memory expansion through microSD cards.

This Jio SIM-locked device, falling in line with its predecessors, necessitates a Jio SIM card for operation. It will come in two variants: JioBharat V2 and JioBharat K1 Karbonn, supporting a staggering 23 Indian languages and pre-installing essential Jio applications.

SpaceX Faces DOJ Lawsuit Over Alleged Discrimination Against Refugee Job Applicants

UNITED STATES: The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has launched a lawsuit against SpaceX, asserting that the aerospace manufacturer and space transportation company engaged in discriminatory practices against job seekers who were refugees or recipients of asylum.

The lawsuit alleges that from September 2018 to May 2022, and potentially even beyond, SpaceX deliberately discouraged refugees and asylees from applying for positions, and those who did apply were purportedly subjected to prejudiced treatment, a violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke from the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division expressed, “Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law.”

The DoJ contends that SpaceX’s repeated assertions in job postings and public statements, indicating the company’s constraint to exclusively employ U.S. citizens or green-card holders due to export-control laws, are unfounded. 

According to the DoJ, these laws do not impose any such restrictions, and refugees and asylees possess the same standing as U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents under export-control regulations.

The Department clarified, “Under these laws, companies like SpaceX can hire asylees and refugees for the same positions they would hire U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.” This includes granting them access to export-controlled information and materials without requiring additional governmental authorization.

However, SpaceX’s CEO, Elon Musk, contested the allegations. He argued that the foundation of ITAR law stipulates that companies dealing in advanced weaponry technology, such as intercontinental-range rockets, must exclusively employ permanent American residents to prevent the technology from falling into the hands of adversarial nations. 

Musk also indicated that the DoJ’s actions seemed to extend beyond a strict interpretation of the law, asserting that the agency’s motivations appeared politically driven.

The lawsuit against SpaceX brings to the forefront the complex intersection of immigration status, national security concerns, and employment practices, raising questions about the interpretation and application of export-control regulations in the context of an evolving workforce landscape.
