Xiaomi Mi Band 8: Fitness Band with Interactive Watch Faces and Extraordinary Sensors

INDIA: Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched its latest fitness band, the Mi Band 8, in its home country. The pill-shaped device features several upgrades over its predecessor, including a new strapping mechanism and watch faces that double as interactive games.

One of the standout features of the Xiaomi Mi Band 8 is its 1.62-inch AMOLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and up to 600 nits of brightness.

The device also includes an always-on display feature. The user can easily swap the band attached to the chassis by pressing a button at the bottom and pulling it out.

The device supports 150+ activity modes, including the new aerobic boxing option.

Users can attach the device to one of their boxing gloves and follow the lessons within the Mi fitness app. The accelerometer in the Mi Band 8 triggers a joystick and acts like one.

Other features of the Mi Band 8 include heart rate and SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, and female menstrual cycle tracking.

The device has a 190mAh battery that can run for up to 16 days between charges in standard mode and up to 6 days with Always-On-Display enabled.

The magnet-fastenable fast charger can fully charge the device in just one hour. The Mi Band 8 can also be used as a pendant or attached to shoes to track running and walking stats.

The standard variant of the device is available for 249 yuan (Rs. 2,975) in China, and the NFC edition is available for 299 yuan (Rs. 3,575).

Xiaomi has not yet revealed its plans for a global release of the Mi Band 8, including in India.

The Mi Band series has been popular among fitness enthusiasts due to its affordability and range of features.

In other words, it is possible to freeze the motion of a particle by constantly measuring it.

The act of measurement collapses the system’s quantum state, forcing it into one of its possible states.

If the system is measured again immediately after, it will remain in the same state, preventing it from evolving.

Ferrari Will Not Bring Upgrades for Baku, Promises “Flow of Updates” Soon

ITALY: Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has confirmed that the team will not bring upgrades for the SF-23 to the Baku Grand Prix this weekend.

However, the team will have a “flow of updates” coming soon as they strive to improve their performance in the coming races.

The team has not had a podium finish in any of the first three races this season, with Charles Leclerc retiring twice and Carlos Sainz losing a P4 finish due to a time penalty in Australia.

The poor run has left the team trailing behind in the constructors’ championship, 97 points behind leaders Red Bull and 30 behind third-placed Mercedes after only three rounds.

Vasseur has also ruled out the possibility of the team running a complete concept change this year, opting to “massively” upgrade what they already have.

The team has a busy schedule ahead, with five races in six weeks, and Vasseur has assured that the car will have upgrades brought to it at most of the rounds during this time.

However, due to the added risk of Baku being a street circuit and hosting a Sprint event, Ferrari has chosen not to bring upgrades to the car for this particular race.

Vasseur believes that the team has a strong aerodynamic package in place to meet the aerodynamic demands of the high-speed Baku City Circuit.

He stated that each race would have an update on the car, except for Monaco, with the team sticking to the plan but making some adjustments in balance and behaviour.

Vasseur thinks that a wholesale change in the car concept would be the wrong thing to do for multiple reasons, including the financial constraints imposed by Formula 1’s cost cap.

He believes that the team still has room for improvement on the current car and that it makes sense to push in this direction as long as they can develop the car, get points on the aero, and achieve better balance and stability.

Ferrari fans hope that the promised “flow of updates” will bring the improvements the team needs to catch up with their rivals in the Constructors’ Championship.

With a hectic schedule ahead, the team has made the most of its opportunities to score points and climb up the standings.

INDIA: The Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a much-needed win and drew level on points with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after successfully defending a 144-run target in their Indian Premier League encounter on Monday. 

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers, especially their spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, were pivotal in the win as they stifled the Sunrisers’ chase and picked up crucial wickets.

Despite a late challenge from Heinrich Klassen and Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar’s quick and precise bowling in the final over, which yielded just five runs for SRH, ended the game in Delhi’s favour.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals’ innings got off to a rocky start, with Phil Salt departing for a duck in the first over. After Mitchell Marsh scored 19 runs in an over, T Natarajan trapped him LBW, putting the brakes on Delhi Capitals’ run rate.

Washington Sundar’s eighth over proved disastrous for Delhi, with David Warner, Sarfaraz, and Aman Khan departing in the space of six deliveries.

However, Manish Pandey and Axar Patel put on a 69-run partnership that rescued Delhi from a disastrous beginning to the inning, with Pandey and Patel scoring 34 runs each. 

Despite the outstanding performance of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who finished with 2/11 in four overs, including the wicket of Axar, the Sunrisers were unable to prevent Delhi Capitals from scoring a respectable 144.

Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will face off again each other in Delhi on April 29.

FRECA Racer Adam Fitzgerald Suffers Spinal Injury over Sausage Kerbs at Imola

ITALY: Irish racer Adam Fitzgerald suffered a spinal injury during the Formula Regional European Championship race weekend at Imola. The rookie driver competed for the Racing Performance Motorsport team and finished 22nd place in his debut race. 

However, things worsened during this racing weekend when Fitzgerald drove over the high sausage kerbing, resulting in a back injury that led to his withdrawal from the rest of the session. Fitzgerald has since been diagnosed with three fractured vertebrae, and medical experts expect him to be out of action for at least a month.

Fitzgerald’s injury is the latest in a series of accidents caused by sausage kerbs in motorsport. 

Abbie Eaton, Oleksandr Partyshev, Santiago Ramos, Tim Tramnitz, and Sean Gelael are just a few of the racers who have suffered similar back injuries due to the high kerbing.

Eaton suffered crushed vertebrae in her back after she drove over a sausage kerb during the W Series race at the Circuit of the Americas in 2021.

Ramos broke a few vertebrae during a race at the Misano circuit, while Tramnitz injured his spine at Estoril in an F4 crash in late 2021. Formula 2 driver, Sean Galael, suffered a back injury in 2020 in Barcelona.

Fitzgerald’s team, Racing Performance Motorsport, took to social media to voice their frustration with the continued use of the sausage kerbs. 

Even McLaren driver Lando Norris has voiced his concern over using raised kerbs in the past and called for their removal from motorsport.

Norris’s comments came after a terrifying crash at Silverstone during the Formula 2 race, where Dennis Hauger’s car hit a sausage kerb and flew into the air onto Roy Nissany’s car.

The question remains whether motorsport organisers will take heed of the growing concerns over sausage kerbs and remove them from tracks. 

As Fitzgerald’s team spokesperson pointed out, other solutions are available, and the continued use of sausage kerbs could lead to more severe injuries.

The causality paradox, also known as the retrocausality paradox, arises from the strange predictions of quantum mechanics. According to quantum mechanics, particles can exist in a state of “superposition,” meaning they can exist in multiple states simultaneously. 

When an observer makes an observation, the particle “collapses” into a single state, and the observation determines which state the particle ends up in.

The paradox arises when we consider the phenomenon of “entanglement,” which occurs when two particles become linked in a way that the state of one particle is dependent on the state of the other. 

So, when an observer observes one particle, it collapses into a single state, which determines the other particle’s state, even if great distances separate the two particles.

This phenomenon implies that information can be transmitted faster than the speed of light, violating the laws of relativity. 

However, the paradox is even more mind-bending when considering the possibility that the effect could precede the cause.

In one interpretation of quantum mechanics, known as the “transactional interpretation,” the wave function of a particle can be seen as a kind of “offer” from the future, waiting for an observer to “accept” it in the present.

The paradoxical nature of this claim lies in the fact that it defies fundamental principles of geometry and physics.

How can a single object be disassembled and reassembled into two identical things? Isn’t that a violation of the law of conservation of mass and energy?

The answer lies in the fact that the Banach-Tarski paradox only works in the realm of theoretical mathematics. 

In practice, it is impossible to physically disassemble a solid sphere into a finite number of pieces and reassemble them into two identical spheres without violating the laws of physics.

To understand how the Banach-Tarski paradox works, we need to delve into the realm of abstract mathematics. 

The paradox involves a concept called “non-measurable sets,” which are sets of points that do not have a well-defined “measure” or size.

The most famous example of a non-measurable set is the “Vitali set,” which is a set of points on the real number line constructed by choosing one representative point from each of an infinite number of equivalence classes. 

This set is non-measurable because it contains infinite points, but a real number cannot express its size.

The Banach-Tarski paradox works by using non-measurable sets to construct a sphere that can be disassembled and reassembled into two spheres. 

The paradox’s key is that the sphere is not a “measurable” set in the mathematical sense. 

Instead, it is a non-measurable set that one can break down into smaller, measurable pieces.

To disassemble the sphere, we first need to break it into infinite non-measurable sets. 

Each of these sets contains infinite points on the sphere’s surface. By rearranging these sets in a certain way, we can create two new spheres that are identical in size and shape to the original sphere.

SpaceX’s Starship Test Flight Causes Significant Damage; Company Plans Quick Turnaround

UNITED STATES: SpaceX’s long-awaited launch of its massive Starship vehicle proved costly, as the debris-strewn orbital launch pad in South Texas sustained considerable damage. 

The successful launch saw the Starship achieve multiple milestones, but it experienced several issues minutes after liftoff, leading to SpaceX commanding its destruction above the Gulf of Mexico. 

The goal was to get the upper stage to space and bring it down near Hawaii, but the launch’s impact left a large crater in the concrete under the launch mount, according to reports. 

The Starship’s 33 first-stage Raptor engines caused heavy damage to the infrastructure, leading to doubts about when the next launch will occur.

SpaceX is known for its rapid iteration approach, where it learns from failures and quickly implements fixes. 

After the launch, Elon Musk, the company’s founder and CEO, tweeted that the team learned a lot and was ready for the next test launch in a few months. 

However, reputable sources suggest the repair timeline could take longer than expected. 

Max Evans, a photographer for NASASpaceflight.com, tweeted that it’s tough to imagine the site being usable again in under a 12-month timeline. 

Meanwhile, space entrepreneur Jonathan Goff tweeted that the company is probably at least seven to nine months away from its next Starship launch.

However, Musk seems optimistic about the repair timeline, tweeting that SpaceX could be ready to launch again in one to two months. 

He noted that the company started building a massive water-cooled steel plate three months ago, which will go under the launch mount to prevent further damage. 

The assessment that the concrete under the Starbase pad would survive a single liftoff was incorrect. 

The billionaire entrepreneur added that SpaceX would install the plate before the next Starship test flight.

SpaceX will now need to repair the Starbase, install the steel plate under the launch mount, analyse the data from the debut flight, and incorporate the lessons learned into future Starships. 

SpaceX has a history of meeting tall orders, but given the extent of the damage, it is still unknown whether the company can complete all the work required for the next launch in just a few months.
