Copa America: 41 New COVID-19 Cases Found In Brazil

Brazil stepped in as the emergency host of this championship despite having second highest number of death in the world by COVID-19

BRAZIL: Brazil’s health ministry has registered 41 new COVID-19 cases in the ongoing Copa America Football League. According to the reports, 31 players (or staff members) and 10 workers who were working in the event got affected.

In an official statement the Health Ministry said, “All workers who tested positive were in Brasilia. The visiting Venezuela squad was depleted after nearly a dozen cases of COVID-19 involving players or staff”. They also added that around 2,927 COVID-19 tests related to Copa America have been conducted so far.

Brasilia was the venue for the first match of Copa America League in which Brazil played against Venezuela. Brazil won this match quite comfortably with scoreboard reading 3-0. The goal scorers from the Brazilian sides where Marquinhos, Neymar and Gabriel.

At first when the Copa America schedule was made, Brazil wasn’t considered to host the league matches. However, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro offered to host the tournament in Brazil after Argentina and Colombia were dropped as co-hosts.

On Monday, one of the Peru’s fitness coach tested positive for COVID-19. Colombian team also suffered from the same problem as there technical assistant Pablo Roman and physiotherapist Carlos Entrena got COVID-19 positive.

Earlier, Venezuela team announced that they have included 15 new players to there squad as 8 of there players tested positive when they arrived in Brazil. As per the reports, even the Venezuela team staff members were affected by COVID-19.
