TURKEY: Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish President, cancelled his election campaign following being indisposed during an interview on television live. Hasan Ozturk, a fellow interviewer, seemed partly puzzled when the camera shifted focus from Erdogan to him when the President started to feel ill. After some moments, that broadcast was terminated completely.

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) of the President distributed footage that was shot in the same place. The President mentioned that the intense workload due to the election campaign time resulted in him being affected by stomach flu.

A number of in-person meetings were cancelled by Erdogan in a lot of important campaigns owing to his illness that, also included being present at the opening ceremony of a segment of the nuclear power plant in southern Turkey that is funded by Russia

A tweet from Erdogan that followed later read, “Today I will rest at home upon the advice of my doctors with God’s permission, we will continue our campaign from tomorrow onwards.” Fuat Oktay stated that he would replace him in catering to the campaign events throughout central Turkey.

On May 14, Turkey is scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections. Erdogan will face an organised campaign from a six-party opposition that wishes to see him go after 20 years in office.

Notwithstanding general discontent with the continuing financial meltdown and the government’s response to disastrous earthquakes that killed more than 50,000 lives throughout Turkey and 8,000 deaths in Syria, several surveys now have his major opponent, Kemal Klcdarolu, in a small lead.

Considering worries about the relationship between government-led construction efforts and the infrastructure that fell following the earthquake, the nuclear plant is another flagship infrastructure project that Erdogan and the AKP are hoping will impact voters in the approaching election.

Erkan Kandemir, AKP deputy chair, mentions that Erdogan will attend the program online. He says, “Our President will be present online at the Akkuyu nuclear power project event, which is scheduled for tomorrow. Our Mersin rally will take place at a later date.”
