Gunmen Kills 16 people in Katsina

Villagers noted that they counted 16 dead bodies and at least 24 others injured, while more than 100 houses were set on fire by the gunmen.

NIGERIA. Katsina: Sixteen persons have been confirmed to have been killed while scores of others injured by unknown gunmen in Yasore community in Batsari Local Government area of Katsina State.

Police spokesperson for Katsina state, Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident, saying 11 persons lost their lives during the incident.

Isah further stated that the incident lasted for an hour as the gunmen in their large numbers invaded the community on motorcycles, looted foodstuffs, razed houses, carted away with cash and rustled several animals.

“Batsari local government is liable to attack by bandits as it is close to a thick forest reserve. It had a drastic drop in such attacks in recent weeks due to offensive operations by the security men on the bandits in the area”, the Police Spokesman said.

Isah added that the attack was a retaliation by herdsmen, whose members were recently killed by volunteer vigilantes, locally known as Yan Sakai.

“The incident occurred and 11 people lost their lives while 10 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The attack was a retaliation by herdsmen whose members were killed by Yan Sakai recently”, Isah added.

Isah noted that Yan Sakai has been ruled out, and anyone caught parading himself as one would be treated like a bandit.

Gunmen Kill Another 18  in Zamfara Night Attack

Similarly, not less than 18 villagers in Zamfara State were reportedly killed by bandits.

It was gathered that bandits raided Kuryan Madaro in the middle of the night.

Sources said many houses and business centers were burnt, with 15 vehicles, which include a police patrol van.
