PORTUGAL: Lewis Hamilton wins Portuguese Grand Prix 2021, his second race of the season beating his strongest rival Max Verstappen while Valtteri Bottas secured the third position after starting on pole.

Lewis Hamilton beats Max Verstappen in a thrilling race at Algarve International Circuit, Portimao, Portugal this afternoon. Valtteri Bottas secured the third position in the race after starting on the pole.
The defending champion reigns
After two actions-driven racing rounds in Bahrain and at Imola this season, Lewis Hamilton was leading by one point in the F1 world drivers’ championship standings followed by Max Verstappen before the start of the race. Hamilton again proved that he is the best in Formula 1 racing history.

During previous year’s Portuguese Grand Prix held in October 2020, Lewis Hamilton took his 92nd race win, passing seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher’s record for most Grand Prix wins. He finished ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in 3rd position.
The roller coaster circuit
The circuit upgraded and redesigned by Ricardo Pina, Arquitectos, opened in 2008 after being homologated by The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing and The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body for many auto racing events like the Formula One.
Drivers defy low grip and a slippery Track
The 4.6 km new track layout at Portimao comprising of hairpins and 16 turns together with several ups and downs, blind curves are fantastic but there were other genuine challenges like gusty winds and the tailwinds that made driving a real challenge. Moreover, the drivers were having a difficult time balancing the issue of very low grip in the track combined with the choice of tyre that made the race a real roller coaster ride worth watching.
