CANADA: Hindus of Indian descent who backed India in the Nijjar execution row were threatened by a pro-Khalistani organization to leave Canada. Since 2019, India has outlawed the Sikhs for Justice organization. Gurpatwant Pannun, the legal representative for the SFJ, appeared in a viral video demanding Indians to leave Canada.

“Indo-Hindu leave Canada; go to India. You not only support India, but you are also supporting the suppression of speech and expression of pro-Khalistan Sikhs,” said Pannun, who is a pro-Khalistan Sikh leader and labelled as a terrorist in India.

On June 18, The Khalistan Tiger Force leader, who was sought in India for a number of terrorist activities, was shot dead by two unknown assailants outside a gurdwara in Surrey.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that a government agency in India was responsible for the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. India deemed the allegations “absurd” and demanded a Canadian envoy leave within five days.

Canadian Hindus for Harmony voiced alarm about “full-scale Hinduphobia” throughout the country, after Pannun’s threatening video.

Canadian Hindus for Harmony representative Vijay Jain expressed concern about the potential loss of lives among Canadian Hindus due to the Khalistani terrorist group’s explosion on an Air India flight in 1985, which killed 307 passengers and 22 crew members, marking the worst terrorist assault in Canadian history.

Canadian Minister Anita Anand urged for calm, reacting to the video.

“South Asians and families who come from India, regardless of religion, will share the sentiment that it was difficult to hear the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday. This is a time to let the legal process continue as it must. Let us all remain calm, unified, and empathetic,” the minister wrote on X.
