BANGLADESH: In a world often divided by privilege and indifference, Srabonti Hasan stands as a testament to how empathy, when coupled with purpose, can transform communities. A social activist and mental health professional from Bangladesh, Srabonti’s story began long before she became a recognised name in humanitarian circles. Her mission to serve humanity with dignity and hope was born when she was just in class eight.
“At an age when most children dream only for themselves, I dreamt for my community,” she reflects. That vision would soon evolve into something far greater. From founding social welfare clubs in her school, college, and university to launching her own initiative, the Amar Hashi Foundation, Srabonti built not just an organization, but a movement.

Today, her foundation works across multiple fronts: empowering Rohingya women and children, improving child nutrition, advancing menstrual health education, and promoting sustainable social welfare programmes. Her efforts have earned her recognition nationally and internationally, but for Srabonti, every accolade is simply a reminder of a deeper truth: when women rise, entire societies rise with them.
“This is only the beginning,” she says with conviction. “My journey is far from over.”
Srabonti Hasan: Turning Privilege into Purpose
Srabonti’s story is rooted in a profound realisation, one that came early in her life. “I learnt that privilege is not just a blessing, it’s a responsibility,” she says. Growing up, she witnessed stark inequalities around her children deprived of education, women silenced by stigma, and families trapped in cycles of poverty.
While many might have turned away, Srabonti turned toward. She joined humanitarian activities as a young student and collaborated with both local and international organizations, gaining experience that would later guide her foundation’s global reach. Today, the Amar Hashi Foundation partners with initiatives in Nepal, Ghana, and the USA, extending the impact of Bangladeshi compassion across borders.
Her motivation isn’t measured in milestones but in moments the joy of a child receiving their first book, the empowerment of a girl learning about menstrual health, or the relief of a mother receiving nutritional support.
“I don’t just want to help,” she says. “I want to create a world where help becomes unnecessary because empowerment thrives.”
The Balancing Act: Purpose, Peace, and Presence
Behind Srabonti’s calm demeanour lies an intense passion balanced by mindful discipline. Activism and mental health work demand emotional resilience, and Srabonti embraces this with grace.
“Balance isn’t about dividing time; it’s about aligning purpose with life,” she explains. Her personal and professional worlds don’t clash, they coexist harmoniously through conscious self-care, reflection, and structured planning. As a mental health professional, she advocates for mindfulness, emotional regulation, and the importance of rest.
Her family, she says, is her greatest source of strength. “They don’t challenge my mission they empower it.”
For Srabonti, balance means choosing peace over perfection and progress over pressure. “I’m a woman, a dreamer, a leader but also a human who values presence, prayer, and personal time,” she adds.
She believes every woman can rise without losing herself; “she just needs to give herself permission to shine.”
The Challenges: From Barriers to Breakthroughs
Every step of Srabonti’s journey has been marked by resilience. “Obstacles are not stop signs; they are tests of determination,” she says.
In a society where female leadership often meets scepticism, Srabonti faced financial constraints, societal pressure, and gender bias. Many questioned her choices and doubted her ability to lead. But she transformed every setback into a stepping stone.
Her strength lies in turning criticism into courage. “People questioned my dreams but I learnt to turn their silence into strength,” she recalls.
Her inspiration comes not from fame, but from the people she serves. “The women who rise despite adversity, the children who smile despite hunger, the mothers who dream regardless of hardship, they are my heroes.”
Srabonti’s work has earned her numerous honors, including the Best Young Social Worker Award, Human Rights Award from the Asia Foundation, Empowering Social Worker Award from Bangladesh Youth Organisation, Mother Teresa Golden Award, SAARC Activism Award, South Asian Excellence Award, and Bangladesh Achievers Award for Social Activism & Psychology.
Yet, she insists these recognitions are not milestones of personal success but reflections of collective resilience. “My achievements remind me not of what I have achieved, but of why I started.”

The Message: Empowerment Begins with Empathy
Srabonti’s journey embodies a universal message that one person’s compassion can ignite countless others. To those seeking to make a difference, her advice is simple yet profound: “Greatness doesn’t begin with grand actions. It begins with courage, humility, and a heart that refuses to ignore others’ pain.”
She urges aspiring changemakers to start small and start now. “Do not wait for perfect conditions or applause. Start with compassion. Start where you are.”
Her words carry the weight of experience and the warmth of sincerity. “Impact is not measured by scale but by sincerity,” she says.
Srabonti doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the challenges that come with activism. “You will face doubt, fear, and failure, but every meaningful journey does. Let your setbacks refine you, not define you.”
Her message to women is especially empowering: “Be kind, but be bold. Be humble, but be unstoppable. Your story, your voice, your purpose – they all matter.”
And perhaps her most inspiring sentiment of all: “Dream not only to rise, but to lift others with you. If you can bring a smile, create opportunity, or restore someone’s dignity – you are already rewriting the world.”
A Beacon of Hope
From a young girl with a vision in Bangladesh to a globally recognized humanitarian, Srabonti Hasan has become a voice for those who have none. Her Amar Hashi Foundation continues to expand, touching lives across continents, proving that hope knows no borders.
Her life’s work stands as a reminder that true leadership isn’t about power, it’s about purpose. And true empowerment isn’t about dominance, it’s about dignity.
In Srabonti Hasan’s journey, the world finds a story of resilience, grace, and boundless hope – a story that reminds us all that compassion, when nurtured, can change not just lives but legacies.
