AFGHANISTAN. Kabul: On a trip to the eastern province of Paktia, Acting Interior Minister Gen. Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal said that the Taliban is trying to transfer the military equipment including tanks, to Pakistan, as the group is advancing to capture districts.

“There is also information that the Taliban take some (military) tanks to Pakistan through Zabul province (in southern Afghanistan),” the acting interior minister said. “The National Security Council and the commander in chief have ordered permanent patrols to target any tank that is tried to be taken to Pakistan.”

“They have taken military equipment owned by security forces across the Durand Line,” Shamim Khan Katawazai, head of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance told TOLO News.

“There are evidence and footage about this. Pakistani soldiers have clicked photos with them.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman rejected the claims by the Afghan interior minister. He said that the equipment is needed for the war, and there is no possibility of transferring the military equipment to Pakistan due to a treaty made between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the fencing of the border.

The Taliban has captured several districts in the South, East, and North region in the past few weeks. According to the security officials, some of the districts were captured by the Taliban without any resistance. On the other hand, some districts were handed over after an official evaluation of the army from the outposts.

The Taliban spokesman claimed that the group had obtained equipment in the districts left from the Afghan forces. The Taliban captured at least 200 Humvees from Afghan security forces in just three weeks.
