UNITED STATES/UKRAINE: After months of disinclination, the US and Germany would finally deliver tanks to Ukraine to significantly aid Ukraine’s fight to regain Ukrainian territories from the Russians.
The Biden administration plans to send 30 M1 Abrams tanks and will announce how they will deliver them on Wednesday.
However, it is still being determined when the potential delivery would occur, as it might take months or even years for the battle tanks to reach Ukraine.
Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, will also send at least 14 Leopard 2 A6 tanks. Britain is set to send Challenger II tanks to Ukraine. Poland is also keen to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine but has added that Berlin needs to agree to their export as these tanks are made in Germany. As reported, scandinavian allies are ready to send their Leopard tanks to Kyiv.
Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, expressed that the news would be a “blatant provocation” following Moscow’s warning that armor supplies to Ukraine can make matters worse, leading to a “global catastrophe.”
Antonov added, “It is obvious that Washington is purposefully trying to inflict a strategic defeat on us. If the United States decides to supply tanks, justifying such a step with arguments about ‘defensive weapons’ will not work.”
As expressed by Berlin, NATO might be in direct support of the war with Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, has repeatedly requested the Western allies to deliver their most advanced battle tanks, saying that such “discussions must be concluded with decisions.”
Both Germany and the United States have been extremely hesitant to provide heavy armour until now, fearing that such a move from their end would result in the Kremlin causing chaos.
