COVID-19 Cases Surge in China Sparking Global Concerns

INDIA: As the world continues to grapple with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and others from the virus as Omicron BF.7, the new Covid variant, has begun spreading.

COVID-19 necessary precautions

One of the most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 is through frequent hand washing. It is recommended to wash your hands for at least half a minute with soap and water. If soap and water are unavailable, then use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

It is also essential to avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, to reduce the risk of infection.

Another critical measure to take is wearing a mask in public settings, especially when it is impossible to maintain a distance of at least six feet from others.

Wearing a mask can effectively help prevent the spread of the virus, particularly if you are in close contact with others or in an area with high transmission rates.

It is important to note that masks should be worn properly, covering both the nose and mouth. You should change the mask regularly if it becomes damp or soiled.

In addition to hand washing and mask-wearing, it is crucial to maintain a safe distance from others whenever possible. This includes avoiding large crowds and gatherings and maintaining a distance of at least six feet from others when in public.

It is also important to stay home if you are feeling sick and to follow guidelines set by local health authorities on quarantine and isolation procedures.

It is also important to stay informed about the latest developments and recommendations regarding COVID-19. This can help you make informed decisions about your health and that of the people around you.

You can stay informed by following the guidelines and recommendations of local and national health authorities and staying up to date with the latest news and information about the pandemic.

The Aarogya Setu app effectively keeps you aware of updates regarding Covid and its spread in your vicinity.

In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing global health crisis that requires everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others.

By following guidelines on hand washing, mask-wearing, physical distancing, and staying informed, we can all play a role in helping to slow the spread of the virus while protecting the health and well-being of ourselves and others.

So, it is imperative to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and others from the COVID-19 virus.

Indian Government Gives Approval to Esports as a Multi-sport Event

0

INDIA: The Indian government has formally acknowledged Esports as a multi-sport event. The term basically refers to competitive video games played before a crowd that is now officially recognized as sports.

Department of Sports under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will handle Esports

The official notes state that since the “athletes” utilize their physical and mental abilities to compete in various electronic sports events, the video games fall under the competitive spectator sports category.

As the Indian Esports industry has advocated for such official recognition for some time, this represents a significant shift.

Since the umbrella term “Gaming” will also be included in the official multi-sport sections, competitive gaming will now have a much more depth structure.

Subsequently, the ministry will likewise treat all competitions with a similar gravity as some other type of actual contest.

Additionally, this move will push the region’s gaming industry and help create a more vibrant electronic sports environment. After hosting the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, India is now poised to become a formidable Esports competitor.

The industry has maintained that electronic sports, is a competitive sporting event in which the Esports “athletes” use their physical and mental skills to compete in specific video game genres in an electronic, virtual setting.

“Great news for us to begin the New Year,” says Lokesh Suji, Director of the Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF). He says that the organization pushed the government hard to distinguish electronic sports from iGaming and that the move rewards their efforts.

He expressed his pleasure over the announcement made by the Indian government, led by PM Narendra Modi. Suji was hopeful that the move would provide additional investment opportunities in this burgeoning sector.

According to the most recent data from the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the decision will have far-reaching effects on India’s electronic sports sector.

The recognition of Esports is a significant boost for the country’s electronic sports industry, which is home to over 43 Crore mobile gamers and is projected to grow to 65 crores by 2025.

Mars Dust Storm Poses No Threat to Perseverance’s Rock Samples, Says NASA

UNITED STATES: NASA is confident that the tubes or caches of valuable Mars samples will not be disturbed on the Red Planet by dust, wind, or darkness.

NASA’s Perseverance rover has been dropping material caches in the shape of lightsabers on the surface of Mars this month in preparation for a subsequent sample return mission.

Perseverance collects two samples at each location and carries one set with it. In the 2030s, two fetch helicopters will transport the backup surface tubes to the return rocket if the rover cannot carry the samples to a waiting spacecraft.

Earth-based researchers will be able to examine the tubed samples for signs of life thanks to the epic NASA-European collaboration mission.

However, given that the fetch mission is not expected to land until the 2030s, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory officials stated on Twitter that they had received public concerns regarding the possibility of the tubes being damaged by wind or dust or the caches becoming challenging to retrieve.

The Red Planet experiences gentle wind gusts, in contrast to the fictional, powerful storm shown at the beginning of “The Martian” (2015).

The wind on Mars mainly picks up refined sand grains because of its thin atmosphere, which is only one hundredth the pressure of Earth at sea level.

Winds do not pose a threat to nuclear-powered missions like Perseverance. According to the account, the NASA Curiosity rover, for instance, is still operating on Mars after 10 years with only a thin layer of dust covering the machinery.

However, dust accumulation on solar panels can pose a long-term threat to exploration in the absence of a good wind gust, just like it did on NASA’s recently concluded InSight Mars lander mission.

In any event, for tubes that go underground on a superficial level, NASA expects they will be “easy to spot” in light of the data gathered from InSight.

Even though the lander had been on the Red Planet’s surface for four Earth years, the onboard cameras could still identify cables from InSight.

The backup mission is anticipated to arrive on Mars in 2031, or nine years from now.

There are several chances to send a mission to Mars before 2040, assuming that funding for the sample return mission holds and technology development continues as planned. Launch opportunities between Earth and Mars occur roughly every two years.

Breaking the Stigma: India’s Growing Struggle with Men’s Mental Health

0

INDIA: For years, mental health has been a taboo topic in India, especially when it comes to men. The increasing struggle in India with Men’s Mental Health needed to be discussed openly.

The societal pressure to “man up” and hide any signs of weakness has led to a culture of silence surrounding men’s mental health issues. However, this trend is slowly changing as more men speak out about their struggles and seek help.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India has the highest suicide rate among men in the South-East Asian region. In 2019, suicide accounted for 7.5% of all deaths in India, with men comprising almost three-quarters of those deaths.

Experts attribute this high suicide rate to many factors, including poverty, lack of access to mental health care, and societal expectations for men to be strong and successful.

One of the main barriers to seeking help for mental health issues is the stigma surrounding it. Many men in India still believe that seeking help for mental health problems is a sign of weakness and that they should be able to handle their problems independently.

Lack of awareness about men’s mental health

The lack of awareness and understanding of mental health issues in the country further reinforces this mindset.

A study by the National Mental Health Survey of India found that almost half of the Indian population does not consider mental health problems a severe issue.

However, there are signs that this stigma is slowly breaking down. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to raise awareness about men’s mental health in India.

Celebrities, such as actor Deepika Padukone, have spoken openly about their mental health struggles and encouraged others to seek help.

In addition, several organisations, such as the Movember Foundation and Men’s Health Network, have launched campaigns to promote mental health awareness and encourage men to speak out about their struggles. The organisation sheds light on men’s mental health.

There have also been efforts to improve access to mental health care in India. The government has prioritised mental health in its National Health Policy, focusing on increasing the number of mental health professionals and providing more funding for mental health research.

In addition, several private organisations, such as the Mind Temple, have also stepped in to provide mental health care services to those in need.

Despite these efforts, there is still a long way to go in addressing men’s mental health issues in India. Many men still do not have access to mental health care, particularly in rural areas.

In addition, the lack of mental health education and awareness means that many men do not even realise that they are struggling with mental health issues.

It is clear that more work needs to be done by society to break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health in India and to ensure that men have access to the care they need.

By raising awareness, providing access to mental health care, and encouraging men to speak out about their struggles, we can create a society where men feel comfortable seeking help and getting the support they need.

South Korea Reports the First Fatality from Deadly Naegleria Fowleri Amoeba

SOUTH KOREA: The first case of a “brain-eating amoeba”-related death in South Korea was reported by authorities on Monday.

Brain-eating amoeba found its first victim

According to South Korean media, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency confirmed that the disease caused the death of a 50-year-old Korean man who had just returned from Thailand.

The brain-eating amoeba, also known as Naegleria fowleri, is a single-celled organism that can cause a rare and often deadly disease called primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM)

The amoeba is found commonly in warm, stagnant bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and hot springs, and it can enter the body through the nose when contaminated water is inhaled.

Once the amoeba enters the body, it travels to the brain, where it can cause inflammation and destruction of brain tissue.

Symptoms of PAM include headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting, which can progress to a coma and death within a few days.

The risk of contracting PAM from the brain-eating amoeba is low, but it is vital to take precautions when participating in water activities in warm, stagnant water.

The precautions include avoiding water activities in stagnant water, using a nose clip or holding the nose shut when participating in water activities, and avoiding water activities when the water is warm, and the water levels are low.

In addition, it is crucial to chlorinate swimming pools properly and to use disinfectant when cleaning water fountains to prevent the growth and spread of the brain-eating amoeba.

While PAM is rare, it is a severe and often deadly disease. It is essential to take precautions to prevent infection and to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms are present. With prompt medical treatment, the chances of survival can increase.

The brain-eating amoeba is a rare but severe threat that can cause serious illness and death. It is important to take precautions when participating in water activities in warm, stagnant water and to seek medical attention if symptoms of PAM are present.

Alpine Sets the Record Straight: Alpine Academy Program is Not Going Anywhere

0

UNITED KINGDOM: After discussions about its future, Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer has stated that the Alpine Academy will remain in place until 2023.

Alpine Academy came under close investigation in 2022 F1 season

The Alpine Academy went under intense scrutiny in the second half of the 2022 F1 season because of the humiliating controversy involving Oscar Piastri and the 2023 Alpine F1 team seat.

Before being named as Fernando Alonso’s replacement for the upcoming season by Alpine, the Australian, who will race for McLaren in 2023, was a driver for Alpine Academy and participated in private testing with the team.

However, Piastri denied the announcement that a deal had been reached and quickly distanced himself from Alpine’s announcement. He had signed a contract to race for McLaren, so the reason for his disagreement was immediately apparent.

The matter wound up going before F1’s Contract Recognition Board, who favoured McLaren, with the CRB uncovering Piastri had never had a legitimate agreement with Alpine for 2023.

Szafnauer revealed that the team had discussions with Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi regarding whether or not to continue the junior driver program. The situation gave Alpine the impression of being somewhat disorganized in administrating their Academy contracts.

Jack Doohan, an Australian racer, leads the Academy. He tested with Alpine in Abu Dhabi. Szafnauer stated that he had plans for 2023.

Doohan will have to compete against fellow Alpine Academy member Victor Martins, who moves up to F2 after winning the F3 championship. Doohan will also have to compete against Olli Caldwell and Caio Collet, the other two drivers Alpine currently employs. Alpine may yet make changes to its roster before the 2023 season.

Speaking about Doohan, Szafnauer said he will feature in F2 again in 2023. He added that Doohan would be a part of the Alpine family, and his focus would be to win the F2 championship next year.
