INDIA: The RX100 is one of India’s most well-known Yamaha motorcycles. The bike was manufactured from 1985 to 1996 before it was nearly 25 years old. 

However, motorcycle enthusiasts in the nation continue to support it. In the market for second-hand two-wheelers, there is still a lot of demand for it.

Yamaha set to launch RX100 with advance features

Until this year, Yamaha had not mentioned the RX100 nameplate’s revival in India. On the other hand, the Japanese bike manufacturer is about to release a more up-to-date bike model that keeps the original design. 

In a recent interview with the media, Yamaha India Chairman Eishin Chihana told the media that the company would soon introduce a new motorcycle with the RX100 nameplate.

The Yamaha RX100 has received high praise for its compact design, exceptional performance, and value. 

It is common knowledge that the owners of the RX100s currently in use or previously in use have made numerous modifications, ranging from engine tuning to faster throttle response.

According to Chihana, Yamaha is considering several options for a new RX100 motorcycle. Despite this, he did confirm that, given the RX100’s cult status as a fast commuter, the new motorcycle will be a performance-oriented machine. 

Given the stricter BS6 outflow standards, which deny the utilization of a two-stroke cruiser for street transportation, the new bike wouldn’t have a two-cycle motor like that of the first RX100.

The Japanese manufacturer of two-wheelers has confirmed that it will introduce the RX100 to India in July of next year. It will be a modernized version of the original bike with a more modern design and a larger engine.

The new RX100 “should be an impactful package with a powerful engine and design,” Eishin Chihana had previously stated.

INDIA: On December 26, 2004, a massive earthquake struck the Indian Ocean, causing a series of devastating tsunamis that affected countries around the Indian Ocean, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand. 

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 9.1 and was one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded, was caused by a massive shift in the earth’s tectonic plates under the ocean floor.

The tsunamis that followed the earthquake were some of the deadliest in recorded history. Several waves reached heights of up to 100 feet in some areas. 

The tsunamis struck the coastlines of the affected countries with great force, causing widespread damage and destruction to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

In Indonesia, the hardest-hit country, the tsunamis destroyed entire villages and killed over 168,000 people. 

Over 35,000 people lost their lives in Sri Lanka, and many more were left homeless. In India, over 12,000 people lost their lives, and over 8,000 died in Thailand.

The disaster had a devastating impact on the economies and infrastructure of the affected countries. 

In Indonesia, for example, the disaster caused widespread damage to the country’s transportation and communication networks, which made it difficult for aid to reach those in need.

The international community responded quickly to the disaster, with countries worldwide sending aid and rescue teams to the affected areas.

UNITED STATES: A new model that considers the unique ice-water interaction at the island’s fjords says Greenland’s glaciers are melting nearly 100 times faster than previously thought.

A fjord, also known as a fiord, is a long, narrow inlet with vertical sides or cliffs that a glacier makes.

The recent observations from the new mathematical representation of glacial melt reflect how ice melts away from the vertical faces at the ends of Greenland glaciers. 

In the past, scientists used models created in Antarctica, where glacial slabs float on top of seawater in a completely different arrangement.

Lead author Kirstin Schulz, a research associate at the University of Texas, said that people took the melt rate model for Antarctica’s floating glaciers and applied it to Greenland’s vertical glacier fronts for years.

However, there is increasing evidence that the conventional method results in meagre melt rates at the vertical glacier fronts of Greenland.

The researchers knew their understanding of Arctic glaciers in Antarctica was insufficient. 

However, due to their location at the ends of fjords, it isn’t easy to get close to the glaciers of Greenland.

According to the researchers, this causes dramatic calving events in which tiny pieces of ice the size of buildings fall into the water without warning, causing mini-tsunamis.

Robotic boats have been used by Rutgers University researchers, led by physical oceanographer Rebecca Jackson, to get close to the dangerous ice cliffs and take measurements.

This has been done at the LeConte Glacier in Alaska and the Kangerlussuup Sermia in Greenland. 

Jackson’s measurements suggest that the Antarctica-based models vastly underestimate Arctic glacial melt.

A future mission will send robotic submarines to the faces of three west Greenland glaciers led by researchers at Austin’s University of Texas. 

Models predicted that LeConte would vanish 100 times faster than it does in reality.

The combination of cold new water from the glacial masses and hotter seawater drives sea flow close to the ice sheets and further away in the sea, meaning the liquefy has expansive ramifications. 

The Greenland ice sheet also impacts sea-level rise; There is enough water in the ice of Greenland to raise sea levels by 20 feet (6 meters).

The most recent data from near-glacial missions and a more realistic understanding of how the glaciers’ steep, cliff-like faces affect ice loss are used in the new model.

The results show 100 times more melt than the previous models predicted, which aligns with Jackson’s findings.

“You really want to get them right,” says Schulz because the results of the ocean climate model are highly relevant for humankind to predict trends associated with climate change.

SOUTH KOREA: According to the South Korean military, five North Korean drones entered South Korea on Monday. South Korea attempted to shoot down the North Korean aircraft by scrambling jets and attack helicopters. 

South Korean military fired about one hundred shots

According to the military official, the South Korean military also sent surveillance aircraft into the North to photograph its military installations as part of its response.

Lee Seung-o, an official with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated at a briefing that “this is a clear act of provocation” by North Korea, which, in his words, was “violating” South Korean airspace.

One of the five drones from North Korea flew close to Seoul, the capital of South Korea, while the others flew close to the west coast. The drones were “operated assets to shoot down,” according to Lee.

He didn’t say if the jets had shot down any drones, but according to the media, the South Korean military fired about one hundred shots but didn’t destroy any of them. Lee said that when it first saw the drones, South Korea fired “warning shots.”

According to media reports, which cited the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea, one of the drones returned to North Korea, while the other four managed to escape from the range of the South Korean jets.

North Korea’s state media did not mention drones and had no channel for South Korean media inquiries.

Lee stated that South Korean reconnaissance aircraft entered the North to take pictures of the North Korean drone flights in action, implying that the North Korean drones intended to be for surveillance.

The military reported earlier that South Korea detected the five drones in the skies of the western city of Gimpo around 10:25 a.m. (0125 GMT) and tracked them as they crossed the Military Demarcation Line between the two Korean countries.

On Monday, Lee stated that the North Korean drones were small—about two meters—but he did not provide any additional information regarding their equipment if any.

North Korea has had poor relations with South Korea, a U.S. ally, for decades. Still, tensions have recently increased as a new, conservative South Korean government took office and North Korea continues its nuclear and missile programs.

In response to a record number of North Korean missile tests this year, South Korean and American forces have intensified military exercises. North Korea sees exercises of this kind as preparations for an invasion.

UNITED KINGDOM: Mercedes bested the times during the first pre-season test of the 2022 F1 season at the Barcelona de Catalunya Circuit, the venue for the Spanish Grand Prix. 

Mercedes outperformed the competition during the first pre-season

Shovlin says that during the W13 shakedown at Silverstone, the team had to operate in the middle of a storm. He added that it was about the worst conditions in which the team had to run the car.

Consequently, according to him, going to Barcelona was a case of understanding the car further and how to run the car while identifying underlying issues. 

The team found itself in a spot over what it could do to stop the porpoising, which was debilitating for the drivers, especially even more for Lewis Hamilton, who ran sensors and experimental setups to help the team get to the root of its issues.

Amazon Teaser Confirms Indian Release of Redmi Note 12: 5G Device Gears up for Its Launch

INDIA: Redmi has been prodding the Redmi Note 12 Pro launch and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus for a few days. 

A recent Amazon teaser reveals that the Redmi will launch its Note 12 5G model in India next month. Redmi will launch its vanilla model in India on January 5, the same day as the Pro models.

Redmi Note 12 is set to arrive on Amazon

According to the teaser, the Redmi Note 12 will be available on Amazon, while the Note 12 Pro and Note 12 Pro Plus will be available on Flipkart. 

Flipkart has officially teased the Pro models. However, the dates of the sale are still unknown.

The Amazon teaser has now revealed some vital information about the Note 12, in addition to the launch date.

The AMOLED display on the upcoming Redmi Note 12 5G will feature a centred punch-hole notch. According to the listing, the smartphone will also have a triple rear camera setup, an LED flash on the rear panel, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. 

The Note 12 5G will have a 48-megapixel primary camera. In addition, the listing indicates that the Redmi Note 12 5G will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and support for 33W fast charging. 

The teaser also claims that the smartphone will be the slimmest production Redmi Note model. The Chinese model uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor, so it’s safe to assume that the Indian model may use the same SoC.

The Note 12 Pro and Note 12 Pro Plus will also be unveiled by the smartphone manufacturer on January 5. India’s estimate of these Redmi Notes is unknown at this point; however, the Note 12 5G will be the least expensive of all, as custom goes.
