BMW X6, X4 SUVs Disappear from India Website, No Official Statement Given

INDIA: German luxury car maker BMW has delisted the X6 and X4 SUVs from its official website in India, causing speculation among fans of the brand. 

The X6, a 5-seater SUV priced between Rs. 1.04 and Rs. 1.11 crores, made its debut in June 2020. Meanwhile, the X4, a crossover SUV that sits between the X3 and X5 models, was updated last year.

Despite removing the two models from the website, BMW has yet to release an official statement regarding their discontinuation. 

However, the company has unveiled its third-generation BMW X1, which will be locally manufactured in Chennai. 

The new SUV is available in five different colours and is powered by a 1,995 cc diesel engine with a maximum power output of 145 bhp and 360 Nm of torque.

The X6 was last updated with the 50 Jahre M Edition, which was priced at 1.11 crores, while the X4 also received a special edition, the 50 Jahre M Edition, which was priced at 74.90 lakhs. BMW introduced both special editions in October 2022.

The X4 was previously available in two trim levels, the xDrive30i and xDrive30d, powered by 2.0- and 3.0-litre engines, respectively. 

The latter produced 282 BHP and 650 Nm of torque, while the former produced 248 BHP and 350 Nm.

Although the reasons for delisting the X6 and X4 remain unclear, fans of the brand are hopeful for an official statement from BMW soon. 

The company’s recent unveiling of the third-generation BMW X1 and its commitment to local manufacturing in India demonstrate a continued commitment to the market.

UNITED KINGDOM: Adam Breeden, the founder and CEO of Kindred Concepts, officially opened the doors to the world’s first official premium F1 experience venue, F1 Arcade, located in One New Change, St Pauls, London, on December 12, 2022.

This immersive, state-of-the-art F1 racing simulation experience comes equipped with mind-boggling 60-motion F1 simulators powered by Motorsport Games’ rFactor 2 racing simulation software and exclusive F1 content.

The racing simulation experience has received high praise from Dmitry Kozko, CEO at Motorsport Games Inc., who appreciated the selection of rFactor 2 by F1 Arcade to provide the virtual racing experience and real-world handling and competition to their customers. 

The F1 Arcade’s racing elements were developed in collaboration with Studio 397, whose executive producer, Dom Duhan, stated, “We expect that customers will be blown away by the experience.”

According to Adam Breeden, the founder and CEO of Kindred Concepts, the reaction from customers in the first month has been fantastic. 

The company looks forward to welcoming many more guests to its first London venue and future venues as they expand. 

The success of F1 Arcade in London has already led to plans for a site in Birmingham, UK, in 2023. There are plans for additional locations powered by rFactor 2 to be announced.

The experience at F1 Arcade is not limited to racing, as guests are treated to a best-in-class food and beverage offering created by an executive chef and expert mixologists. 

Breeden stated that his team’s ambition was to introduce a truly innovative experience for F1 fans that makes sim racing accessible in a fun but premium competitive socialising environment.

Former Indian Opener Murali Vijay Calls Time on International Cricket Career

INDIA: Former Indian opener Murali Vijay has called time on his international cricket career, which spanned seven years and saw him represent India in 61 Test matches, 17 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 9 T20 Internationals. 

The 38-year-old has expressed his desire to move on to new opportunities in cricket and business. Murali Vijay added a cheeky dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He revealed that he is looking for opportunities abroad and still desires to play competitive cricket.

Vijay’s announcement came via a statement on social media, expressing his gratitude and humility for having represented India at the sport’s highest level. 

In addition to his international career, Vijay was also a valuable player in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played for multiple IPL teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils now known as Delhi Capitals, and Kings XI Punjab (now called Punjab Kings) in 106 matches and scored 2,619 runs at an impressive strike rate of 121.87 with two centuries and 13 fifties to his name.

Despite last playing for India in 2018 in Perth, Vijay expressed his desire to return to the sport and play competitive cricket, albeit abroad. “I am almost done with BCCI,” he quipped and added that he was looking for opportunities abroad while on a talk show with WV Raman.

Furthermore, Vijay also spoke about the need for a mentality shift with regard to a player’s age, a subject that has come to the forefront in recent times.

He emphasised that age is just a number, and it is essential to have the right mindset. According to Murali Vijay, cricket is a sport that requires focus, dedication, and determination. “I believe that a player’s age should not come in the way of their performance,” he said.

In his international career, Vijay scored 3,928 runs in 61 Tests and 339 runs in 17 ODIs, and Indian cricket fans will undoubtedly remember his performances.

With his retirement, he now sets his sights on new opportunities in the world of cricket and business, and fans will be eager to see what he will bring to the table in his next chapter.

INDIA: AMD, the multinational semiconductor company, has launched its latest Ryzen 7020 and Athlon 7020 series of processors in India.

These new processors are designed for everyday use, emphasizing affordability and high performance.

The Ryzen 7020 series includes two new processors, the AMD Ryzen 3 7320U and the Ryzen 5 7520U.

Both processors boast impressive performance and power efficiency, with the Ryzen 3 7320U claiming 58% faster multitasking and 31% improved application load times compared to Intel’s dual-core Core i3-1115G4 CPU.

The Ryzen 5 7520U is the more powerful of the two, with a faster base clock speed and maximum frequency.

The Athlon 7020 series also has a new member, the Athlon Gold 7220U. The processor offers two cores and four threads, with a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and a boost clock speed of 3.7 GHz.

The Athlon 7020 also comes with 5 MB of shared L2/L3 cache and a Radeon 610M GPU.

The Ryzen and Athlon processors are manufactured on TSMC’s 6nm process, which gives them the power efficiency they are known for.

The latest offering from AMD is also armed with the Microsoft Pluton security processor and other security features of Windows 11, including Modern Standby and the wake-on-voice feature.

AMD claims that the new Ryzen and Athlon processors can give 12 hours’ worth of runtime and come with fast charging support.

UNITED KINGDOM: Audi’s much-anticipated entry into F1 as a works team in 2026 has taken a big step forward with acquiring a minority stake in Sauber. 

The German car manufacturer announced its intention to enter F1 last August, followed by news in October that Sauber would become its “strategic partner” and build the chassis for its F1 program. 

Sauber had revealed earlier that Audi would purchase a stake in its F1 team

Sauber has confirmed that the company has indeed purchased an unspecified stake in the Swiss-based team.

Sauber described the investment as an “important milestone” for Audi’s F1 debut and emphasized that the Sauber Group will continue to operate as Audi’s strategic partner for the program. 

Sauber’s Hinwil facility, which includes a state-of-the-art wind tunnel, will serve as an important base for Audi’s F1 effort, while the German carmaker is building a separate factory in Neuberg, Germany, to develop the power unit.

The 3,000-square-metre facility in Neuberg will house test benches for the 1.6 litre V6 turbo-hybrid engines. The facility is an expansion of the site that was previously the base of Audi’s successful LMP1 program in the World Endurance Championships. 

It is expected that the extension of the site will be completed by the first quarter of 2024. Sauber will continue to use Ferrari engines until 2025, after which it will become the works Audi F1 team. 

The Swiss-based team will operate under its own name in F1 after the end of the forthcoming season, with its agreement with Alfa Romeo coming to an end.

The acquisition of a minority stake in Sauber by the company is a significant step forward in the German carmaker’s preparation for its much-anticipated debut in F1 in 2026. 

With a state-of-the-art facility in Hinwil and the development of a separate power unit factory in Neuberg, Audi is poised to make a significant impact in the world championship.

INDIA: Today marks the 75th anniversary of the assassination of one of India’s greatest leaders, Mahatma Gandhi. Known as the “Father of the Nation.”

Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy continues to influence people worldwide with his philosophy of nonviolence and truth.

Mahatma Gandhi, born in 1869, was a lawyer and political activist who became involved in India’s independence movement.

He believed in nonviolent resistance and used it to protest against British rule. Through his efforts, Gandhi inspired millions of Indians to fight for their rights and freedoms peacefully.

One of Gandhi’s most famous campaigns was the Salt March in 1930.

In protest of the salt tax imposed by the British government, Gandhi led a march of over 24,000 people from Ahmedabad to the Arabian Sea, where they collected salt illegally.

This nonviolent civil disobedience inspired similar protests across India and strengthened the independence movement.

Gandhi’s impact extended beyond India’s borders. He inspired civil rights and freedom movements worldwide, including the American Civil Rights Movement, led by Martin Luther King Jr.

King described Gandhi as his mentor and greatly admired his philosophy of nonviolence.

However, Gandhi’s legacy is not without controversy. Despite his advocacy for peace and nonviolence, he faced criticism for his views on caste and religion.

Nevertheless, his influence on modern India cannot be overstated. He is widely regarded as the father of the nation, and his birthday, October 2nd, is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday in India.

Gandhi’s teachings and principles are still relevant today. His message of nonviolence and truth inspires individuals and organisations to strive for justice and equality.

His legacy is a reminder that anyone can peacefully achieve change through determination and courage.

Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy continues to influence people worldwide 75 years after his death. His philosophy of nonviolence and truth remains as relevant today as it was during his lifetime.

He will always be remembered as a symbol of hope and a champion of justice, and his teachings will continue to inspire future generations.

INDIA: In a high-scoring match filled with drama and excitement, South Africa secured a famous five-wicket win against England, ensuring an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Temba Bavuma led his team from the front with an inspired 102-ball 109 and was supported by his fellow batters as South Africa chased down a massive target of 343. With this victory, South Africa has kept their hopes alive for direct qualification to the 50-over World Cup.

Jos Buttler cracked an imposing 94 not out while Harry Brook and Moeen Ali made respective half-centuries to take England well past the 300-run mark. 

The visitors made an ordinary start after losing the toss and being put into bat. England lost both Dawid Malan and Jason Roy inside seven overs. 

Harry Brook and Ben Duckett steadied the English innings with a third-wicket stand of 49. Duckett lost his wicket in the 17th over, with Keshav Maharaj picking up the scalp. 

Brook and Buttler then joined forces and shared a timely 73-run partnership. After Aiden Markram dismissed Brook, Moeen Ali and Buttler stitched together partnership of 105 before Sam Curran’s cameo took England to 342/7 in 50 overs.

Moeen, who has endured a prolonged rough patch in ODIs, played freely and notched up his fifty.

South African Inning 

The hosts needed a solid start, and Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma provided just that. The South African skipper looked in sublime touch while facing Topley and Woakes.

De Kock put on a fine exhibition of batting, hitting Woakes for two boundaries and a six in the seventh over. Olly Stone dismissed De Kock in the 12th over against the run of play, with Ben Duckett pouching a fine catch.

Bavuma continued to play his strokes from the other end and shared a 97-run partnership with Van der Dussen for the second wicket. 

Bavuma lost his concentration and fell to Sam Curran in what can be described as a soft dismissal. England were dealt another blow when Adil Rashid dismissed well-set Van der Dussen in the 29th over. 

Klaasen and Aiden Markram strung together a stand of 55 in just over six overs as the duo kept the asking rate in check. After Klaasen departed, Markram added a 49-run partnership with David Miller as South Africa inched closer to an epic victory.

The experienced duo of Miller and Marco Jansen landed the big shots with the lofts and slog-sweeps to keep the scorecard ticking after Markram’s dismissal. 

Miller smashed Woakes for a six off the first ball of the last over to provide the finishing touches.

INDIA: In a thrilling match that came down to the final over, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya led India to victory against New Zealand, levelling the three-match series in Lucknow.

The Blackcaps put up a strong fight, pushing India to the brink and leaving the equation at four runs needed off of 3 balls. But Suryakumar Yadav stepped up to the task, launching the bowler over mid-off to secure the win for the Men in Blue.

The Indian spinners shone on the turning track, with Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav limiting the New Zealand team to 99 for 8, their lowest total against India in T20s.

Despite the small target of 100 runs, the Indian batters struggled in the spin-friendly conditions, with top-order players Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Rahul Tripathi having a difficult time.

In the end, the partnership of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav helped India win by six wickets with a ball to spare. The series decider will take place on Wednesday in Ahmedabad.

With key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being rested for the T20I fixtures, the younger players have been given an opportunity to step up.

However, many of them have yet to make their mark, with Kishan’s form declining since his double hundred in Bangladesh and Gill struggling to carry over his ODI success to T20s.

Tripathi, who is filling in at number three in Kohli’s absence, also struggled against the New Zealand spinners.

The pressure was evident in India’s performance, with the run out of Washington Sundar, who sacrificed his wicket to ensure Surya’s stay in the middle. But with a required rate of less than five runs per over, India was able to scrape by and secure the win.

Hardik Pandya also made strategic decisions, employing spinners from both ends in the powerplay and opening the bowling himself.

The combination of wrist spinners Kuldeep and Chahal, along with finger spinner Washington, extracted a lot out of the Lucknow surface, taking out key New Zealand players like Finn Allen, Devon Conway, and Glenn Phillips.

Pacer Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi were only used in the death overs, with Arshdeep taking wickets and conceding only seven runs. Hardik ended with figures of 1 for 25 in four overs.

Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of The Match award for his pivotal inning. The series decider on Wednesday in Ahmedabad promises to be just as exciting.

INDIA: The 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup final was a nail-biting match between Germany and Belgium, with the final score ending in a 5-4 victory for Germany. The win marks German team’s third World Cup in the tournament’s history.

The match started with Belgium scoring the first goal, with Florent Van Aubel half-volleying the ball towards the keeper’s left-hand side. 

However, Germany quickly fought back with a penalty corner opportunity but could not convert. Belgium continued to press, with Tanguy Cosyns deflecting a shot past the German goalkeeper, Stadler, to increase their lead to 2-0.

The German team continued to battle in the second quarter to get on the scoreboard. They had another penalty corner opportunity but were once again unable to convert. 

Three German players in the corner tackled Belgium’s Cosyns, but he dodged the attack and pushed the ball past to keep the lead for Belgium.

German’s persistence paid off as they finally scored their first goal of the match in the final moments of the second quarter, with Niklas Wellen on target after dribbling the ball in the air and smashing it past the Belgian goalkeeper, Vanasch. 

In the second half, Germany continued to push forward. Their efforts paid off as they scored twice quickly with goals from Gonzalo Peillat and Mats Grambusch, who executed a reverse stick flick diagonally towards the goal. 

The goal put Germany in the lead for the first time in the match, but they could not hold on to their lead until the final whistle. Belgium quickly equalised with a goal from Tom Boon, who smashed the ball past the left of Stadler.

The match ended in a penalty shootout, with Germany’s Wellen, Muller, and Prinz scoring, while Aubel, Cosyns, and Kina scored for Belgium as the teams tied in the shootouts 3-3.

The penalty shootout proceeded to sudden death, where Wellen and Prinz scored for Germany. Wegnez scored for Belgium before the German goalkeeper saved Cosyns’ shot. 

The goalkeeper’s save secured the victory for Germany, and they were crowned the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup champions.

It’s worth noting that this was the first time that Germany and Belgium faced each other in the tournament’s final, and Tom and Mats Grambusch are siblings. 

The match was full of twists, turns, and drama, with both teams showing great determination and sportsmanship.

UNITED STATES: Scientists have released a breathtaking image of the “Soul Nebula” that the Hubble Space Telescope captured.

The “Heart and Soul” nebula complex forms a 300-light-years wide star-forming region

The small region of Westerhout 5, also known as the Soul Nebula, glows red due to H-alpha emission caused by the release of energy from hydrogen atoms.

The red light also unveils various fascinating features, such as a free-floating evaporating gaseous globule (frEGG), officially christened KAG2008 globule 13 and J025838.6+604259. This frEGG is seen as a dark, tadpole-shaped region in the upper centre left of the image.

These frEGGs belong to a particular class of evaporating gaseous globules (EGGs) that occur in nebulas when energetic radiation from young, hot stars ionises surrounding gas by stripping away electrons. 

This ionisation causes the gas to disperse from the bright stars in a process called photoevaporation, which helps to stop star formation in nebulas. The gas is so dense inside EGGs that this photoevaporation process happens much slower than in surrounding gas regions. 

This slower photoevaporation and gas protection from dispersal allows gas to remain dense enough to collapse and form protostars, eventually becoming full-fledged stars. As a result, frEGGs and EGGs pique the interest of astronomers because star birth may have once occurred in the area.

Astronomers only recently discovered the existence of EGGs. A prominent example of EGGs can be seen in a 1995 Hubble image called the Pillars of Creation, where the tips of the pillar house EGGs.

frEGGs are a relatively new discovery and are distinct from EGGs because they are separated from the surrounding gas, giving them a distinctive tadpole-like shape.

The Soul Nebula is a partner of another nebula in its vicinity, the Heart Nebula, which will gain popularity as Valentine’s Day approaches. 

The massive cloud of gas and dust, officially known as IC 1805, is named as such because of the glowing hydrogen content, which makes it resemble a pink heart.
