INDIA: Dr. Sheetal Amte-Karajgi was a social worker, entrepreneur, and granddaughter of the renowned social activist Baba Amte. According to the reports, Amte ended her life by consuming poison at her residence in Chandrapur district. Her sudden demise came as a shock for Transcontinental Times as her interview had been pending for the past two months.

Amte was dealing with personal and professional stress for some time. A few weeks ago, Amte had posted a video on her Facebook account in which she had made some serious allegations against Maharogi Sewa Samiti (MSS) and her family. However, the video was deleted a couple of hours later.

Amte was working as Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of Maharogi Sewa Samiti (MSS) in Warora. The allegations which were made by Sheetal Amte were later refuted by her family. On November 24, the Amte family gave a joint testament in which they refused all the allegations made by her. The statement had signatures of her parents Dr. Vikas and Dr. Bharati Amte.

MSS (a non-profit organization) was founded by her grandfather in the year 1949. MSS has helped around 2.7 marginalized people in the past. The organization has helped many people suffering from leprosy, vision and hearing impairment, etc. Amte was also a trained doctor and disability specialist. In 2006, Amte was one of the four Indians to feature in World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Young Global Leader.
