FIFA World Cup Defeat Sparks Waves of Racial Abuse for France Players

0

FRANCE: Following their FIFA World Cup final defeat against Argentina in Doha, France players Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Randal Kolo Muani have been subjected to appalling racial abuse.

After extra time ended in a 3-3 draw, France was defeated on penalties by Argentina in a thrilling final.

Tchouameni and Coman both missed penalties in the shootout, and Kolo Muani missed a chance for France to win the game in extra time.

Following that, the trio received numerous racist messages on social media. Later, Meta, which owns WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, removed all of these comments.

In a statement made because of the racial abuses, Meta said that it had removed the disgusting comments because they broke community rules for the social media site and emphasised its zero-tolerance policy for racist abuse on Instagram.

Meta added that it wants to help protect users from having to see the racial abuse in the first place. It explained the development of the “Hidden Words” feature on the popular social media site.

The feature filters and limits offensive comments and Direct Messages from people who don’t follow the user or only recently followed the user.

Additionally, Meta has directly communicated with the French players and their teams since the final to support and assist them in using the hidden words feature.

Bayern Munich has vocally backed Coman, condemning the bigoted comments about him.

The French football federation wants punishment for the social media users who posted racist comments about some of the national team’s players.

On Tuesday, the federation said that the “unacceptable racist and hateful comments” on social media affected some players and planned to file a complaint against those who posted and condoned the racial abuse aimed at the French footballers.

Alfa Romeo Reintroduces Classic Coupe with the Debut of the Giulia SWB Zagato

0

ITALY: Alfa Romeo and Zagato have unveiled the Giulia SWB after a lengthy teaser campaign. The one-of-a-kind automobile began as a sports sedan before the shortening of its wheelbase to create a sleek two-door coupe without back seats, as the name suggests.

The base vehicle for the Giulia SWB was a spicy Quadrifoglio model with a V6 engine. However, the Italian carmaker upgraded the vehicle to GTAm specs while keeping the six-speed manual transmission.

The Alfa Romeo SZ is a source of inspiration for the front-end styling of the Giulia SWB, which incorporates the most recent three-point LED headlight design from the facelifted 2023 Giulia.

Alfa Romeo removed the GTAm’s enormous rear wing to give the car a cleaner appearance. The Giulia TZ inspired the Kammback wing on the rear.

In keeping with the “Gran Turismo Alleggerita modificata” theme of the supercar, a substantial diffuser has double vertical fins flanking the dual exhaust tips.

The Giulia SWB has a vented hood and a double bubble roof in typical Zagato fashion. To free up space in the side profile, the car manufacturer removed the rear doors, and the standard handles on the front doors. A button is mounted on the B-pillar to open the doors. The manufacture of nearly every redesigned body panel uses carbon fibre.

The GTAm-spec twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 that powers the Giulia SWB coupe produces 533 horsepower and 600 Newton meters of torque.

The Quadrifoglio has a six-speed manual transmission, in contrast to the original GTAm, which only came with an eight-speed automatic.

Zagato designed the car after it wanted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its first partnership with Alfa Romeo. The project got approved in 2021, a century after the Italian car maker introduced the Tipo G1 in 1921.

A German client approached the Milan-based plan house, hungry for extraordinary vehicles.

Not only does the client own an Alfa Romeo SZ and an 8C Competizione, but he also owns several Aston Martin models designed by Zagato and the most recent Alfa Romeo products.

Alfa Romeo will return the Giulia Coupe to its rightful owner after participating in a photo shoot at Arese’s “La Pista” circuit. The specifics of the price have not been made public but considering that a Giulia GTAm costs nearly $200,000 in Italy, it must have been quite expensive.

NASA’s InSight Lander Sends Final Message from Mars in Emotional Photo

UNITED STATES: The peaceful acceptance of Mars’ inevitable demise has led NASA’s InSight lander to take what may be its final image of the planet.

From the lander’s perspective, the official InSight Twitter account tweeted on Monday, “My power’s really low, so this may be the last image I can send.”

A wide-angle image taken by InSight lander’s camera that showed scientific instruments resting on Mars’ surface accompanied the tweet.

The tweet has been liked nearly 345,000 times and retweeted over 51,500 times so far.

If there is one thing that will cause a person to feel empathy, it is a lonely little guy who works for others for years and tries their best before dying on their own, 140 million miles away from home.

Since scientists had issued warnings about InSight lander’s impending demise since May, it shouldn’t surprise anyone.

At the time, the InSight lander’s power level was only one-tenth of what it had been at launch because Mars’ red dust had covered the solar panels and significantly reduced their functionality.

In the months following the warning, it is reasonable to assume that InSight lander’s power has likely decreased further.

The Mars lander mission, launched in 2018, was initially anticipated to last two years. On the other hand, the lander has operated for twice as long, sending back images and collecting information about Mars’ interior for four years.

Explorations by the lander have not been without challenges. InSight’s drill got stuck for eight months in 2019 before failing in 2021 without fulfilling its mission of drilling 16 feet into the soil of Mars.

Nonetheless, the InSight lander has continued to operate until it is physically unable to do so. Despite the difficulties with its drill, the mission of Insight can be considered successful.

The lander detected more than 1,300 Martian seismic tremors, accumulated data on atmospheric conditions, examined Mars’ fluid centre and assisted scientists with mapping the planet’s inside topography.

Presently InSight will kick the bucket alone, following quite a while of perpetual work.

Rohit Sharma Ruled Out of Dhaka Test with Thumb Injury

0

INDIA: The second Test against Bangladesh, which takes place in Mirpur on 22nd December, will not include Rohit Sharma. Due to his absence from the first Test in Chattogram, the India captain will no longer travel to Dhaka.

Vice-Captain KL Rahul will lead India in his absence in the second and last Test match of the series, which India leads 1-0.

After discovering that the skipper’s thumb, which he injured during the second ODI of the current tour, has not fully healed, Rohit Sharma’s inability to play came to light on Monday, 19th December.

As per reports, Rohit Sharma appears to be experiencing some stiffness in the injured finger. The selection committee and the team management have decided not to risk Rohit Sharma at this stage in light of the significant responsibilities ahead of the Indian team.

According to speculations, Rohit Sharma, currently in Mumbai, could have batted through the Test, but there were still concerns about the risk of fielding. If he gets hurt again on that thumb, the Indian team’s management and the medical team thought it could get worse on the field.

When asked about the probability of Rohit Sharma’s availability for the subsequent Test match, KL Rahul said he was awaiting further details on the Mumbaikar’s fitness.

During the press conference after the conclusion of the first test match on Sunday, the Vice-Captain said he was unaware of Rohit Sharma’s fitness. However, he added that he would know more about the situation in a day or two.

The immediate impression is that Rohit Sharma will be available for the white ball series against Sri Lanka, which begins on 3rd January and will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs.

On 7th December, Rohit was rushed to Mumbai for treatment after the BCCI medical team assessed him and gave him a thumb injury while attempting to catch the ball in the slips. Since then, he has been receiving treatment in the city.

Since selecting a player to leave out would have been difficult, Rohit’s absence may have solved a significant selection problem for the team management before the second Test.

India won the first Test by 188 runs, led by Shubman Gill’s maiden Test hundred, while KL Rahul flopped as an opener but proved quite handy as the stand-in captain.

In the meantime, on Monday morning, the Indian team left Chattogram to travel to Dhaka. Before the Test begins on Thursday, 22nd December, they will practice for two days.

Winter Testing Reveals Production-ready Audi A6 E-Tron

GERMANY: The Audi A6 with all-electric features undergoing winter testing in arctic conditions appears very cold in new spy photos. A set of crisp photos show the details behind the camouflage wrap, thanks to the cold air.

The all-electric Audi A6’s four-door split headlight arrangement has been revealed to its best extent yet. A set of LED running lights at the top of the fascia conceals the production model’s primary lights, in contrast to the A6 E-Tron concept, which debuted in April 2021.

When examined closely, the overall design of those lamps is reminiscent of the most recent BMW 7 Series. The headlamps will mount high in the side vents, with the classic Audi grille in the centre.

The lower fascia’s precise details remain a mystery, but renderings suggest a symmetrical design is on the way.

The thin tail lights on the rear end look exactly like the concept car, but they don’t go as far forward on the quarter panels as shown earlier.

Like the A7 Sportback, the E-Tron has a swooping roof, while the standard A6 is a clear sedan. A closer look at the panel gaps below the rear window suggests a standard trunk lid rather than a larger hatch is in place. However, Audi has not yet confirmed the specific design.

The A6 E-Tron might use Audi’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture beneath everything else. That is the same platform behind the Q6 E-Tron and the upcoming Porsche Macan EV, but there have been no rumours about power or range.

The dual-motor layout of the A6 E-Tron concept produced 470 horsepower (350 kilowatts) and a WLTP-stated 435-mile range on a full charge.

Once Audi releases the official model of the A6, there is no reason to believe that the production model will depart significantly from those standards.

Moreover, prototypes have been on display for nearly a year now. Initially, Audi fans anticipated a debut by the end of 2022, but now that the year is almost over, they will have to wait a little longer.

The A6 E-Tron model might be launched in 2024 when the camo finally comes off, likely in the first quarter of 2023.

Assam Government Makes Good on Promise to Evict Encroachers

INDIA: Today, Assam’s Nagaon District Administration began a colossal eviction drive to free land from the encroachers at Bhumuraguri Grazing reserve, Jamai Basti, Rampur, and Kadamoni areas.

Assam Government gears up to free land from the encroachers

Leena Doley, Nagaon’s Superintendent of Police in Assam, told reporters that the eviction drive to demolish illegal structures built by the encroachers, which began in the Santijan bazaar area earlier with the deployment of over 600 security personnel, has so far been peaceful.

More than 980 bighas of land have been encroached upon by illegal encroachers. The state government instructed the nearby Morigaon district administration to be on high alert to cooperate with the eviction campaign as a precaution.

According to district administration representatives, they sent notices requesting the removal of the encroachments on the land to around 1,000 families in October.

The police and civil administration have been doing everything possible to ensure that the eviction drive goes peacefully. At Batadraba, to ensure law and order in case riots break out, the civic body deployed over 800 security personnel.

Several videos shared online show the Nagaon District Administration conducting a massive eviction campaign at the Bhumuraguri Grazing Reserve, Jamai Basti, Rampur, and Kadamoni areas.

On September 12, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assam Assembly that a sum of 4,449 families had been driven out of the encroached areas across the state for supposed infringement since the BJP-drove government took charge for the second time in May the year before.

According to Sarma, the government did not investigate the citizenship of evicted families to determine whether they were Indian nationals or foreigners.

In addition, he stated that the government was “unaware” of whether the families encroaching on government land were homeless due to erosion, as most such victims typically assert.

The chief minister of Assam had stated that property rights are not fundamental and that rights like “Shelter over Head” were only available for legitimate occupation.

Viet Minh and the First Indochina War: The Birth of Modern Vietnam

0

VIETNAM: The Viet Minh, also known as the League for the Independence of Vietnam, was a nationalist movement and political organisation that emerged in Vietnam during World War II.

Ho Chi Minh led the Viet Minh and sought to end French colonial rule and establish an independent Vietnam.

In 1941, the Viet Minh was formed as a coalition of various nationalist groups and individuals united in their goal of independence. The organisation drew support from a wide range of Vietnamese society, including peasants, workers, intellectuals, and soldiers.

During World War II, the Viet Minh worked with the Allies to resist Japanese occupation in Vietnam. However, after the war ended in 1945, the Viet Minh turned their attention to the French, who had reoccupied Vietnam and sought to re-establish colonial rule.

The Viet Minh launched a full-scale armed struggle against the French, known as the First Indochina War. The Viet Minh could draw on a large base of support from the Vietnamese people and used guerrilla tactics to wear down the French forces effectively.

After several years of fighting, the Viet Minh emerged victorious and forced the French to withdraw from Vietnam in 1954. The Viet Minh established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, which became communist-ruled North Vietnam.

However, Vietnam remained divided, with the establishment of the former French-backed state of South Vietnam in the south.

The establishment of South Vietnam led to the Vietnam War, which pitted North Vietnam and the Viet Cong (a communist insurgency in South Vietnam) against the United States and its South Vietnamese allies.

The Viet Minh played a significant role in the Vietnam War, supporting the Viet Cong and conducting military operations against South Vietnam and the United States. The war ended in 1975 with the defeat of South Vietnam and the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule.

Since the end of the Vietnam War, the ruling communist party in Vietnam has overshadowed the Viet Minh. However, the organisation remains an important symbol of Vietnam’s struggle for independence, and Vietnam continues to celebrate it as a national memory.

Today, Vietnam is a rapidly developing country with a growing economy and increasing international influence. However, the legacy of the Viet Minh and the struggle for independence continues to be remembered and celebrated.

Vietnam observes Viet Minh and the First Indochina War as a critical moment in the country’s history.

First Try, First Victory: UAE Made History with Its First Mars Mission

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) successfully launched its first spacecraft to Mars on July 20, 2020, from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan, aboard a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries H-IIA rocket, making it the first Arab and Muslim majority country to reach the Red Planet.

The Hope spacecraft was a part of the UAE’s ambitious Mars exploration program, which aims to study the Martian atmosphere and weather patterns to understand the planet’s climate and the potential for sustaining life.

The mission also inspired the next generation of scientists and engineers in the UAE and the Middle East.

The mission was planned and developed over six years by a team of Emirati engineers and scientists with the support of international partners, including the University of Colorado, the University of California, and Arizona State University.

The spacecraft’s design enabled it to withstand the harsh conditions of space travel and to operate autonomously, with built-in redundancy systems to ensure its survival on its journey to the Red Planet.

The spacecraft began its journey towards Mars by entering into an elliptical orbit around the Earth, which it used to gradually build up speed and increase its distance from the Earth.

After several weeks of orbiting the Earth, the Hope spacecraft used its engines to enter a Mars-bound trajectory, where it will spend the next six months travelling through deep space to reach the Red Planet.

Upon arriving at Mars, the Hope spacecraft entered a stable orbit around the planet, where it soon began its scientific mission.

The spacecraft, equipped with three instruments, studied the Martian atmosphere. The instruments included a camera that took high-resolution images of the planet’s surface and a spectrometer that measured the composition of the Martian atmosphere.

The Hope spacecraft also studied the Martian weather patterns, including the planet’s wind speeds, temperature, and humidity.

The data gathered by Hope helped scientists understand the processes that drive the Martian climate and the potential for sustaining life on the planet.

The UAE’s successful launch to Mars became a significant milestone for the country and the region and has attracted widespread attention from the international community.

The mission has been hailed as a testament to the UAE’s capabilities in science and technology and received accolades from leaders worldwide, including UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The success of the Hope spacecraft mission was also a source of inspiration for the Emiratis. It boosted the ambitions of the next generation of scientists and engineers in the UAE and the Middle East.

The mission sparked widespread interest in space exploration and science among young people in the region and encouraged more students to pursue careers in these fields.

The Hope spacecraft mission was just the beginning of the UAE’s space program.

The country announced plans to send a second spacecraft to Mars in the coming decade and is also looking at other potential space missions, including a mission to the Moon.

The UAE’s successful launch to Mars is a testament to the country’s determination and ambition and has put the UAE on the map as a significant player in the world of space exploration.

With this success, the UAE has demonstrated its ability to take on complex and challenging projects and achieve impressive results. It will surely inspire other countries to pursue their own space exploration endeavours.

FIFA 2022: Argentina Lifts the World Cup by Defeating France 4-2 in Penalties

0

QATAR: After a thrilling final at the Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar, Argentina won the 2022 World Cup by defeating France 4-2 on penalties and drawing 3-3.

Through Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, Argentina got an early two-goal lead before defending champs France came back strongly to tie the game with two goals from Kylian Mbappe.

After Messi gave Argentina the lead in extra time, Mbappe completed his hat trick from the spot kick in the extra time to equalize the score and send the game to a penalty shootout.

The outcome means that Messi, playing in his record 25th and potentially final World Cup match, has a fairy-tale ending as he lifts the trophy for the first time, the only significant FIFA title he hadn’t won.

The 2022 title is Argentina’s third World Championship after 1978 and 1986

https://twitter.com/FIFAWorldCup/status/1604551124056416256

While France, which won the previous World Cup in 2018, was unable to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win both tournaments.

Argentina appeared to be on their way to a comfortable victory when Di Maria, Messi’s teammate and unexpected starter, scored twice in the 23rd minute to give them the lead.

However, France came alive late in the game and reaped the rewards when substitute Randal Kolo Muani won a penalty with less than ten minutes remaining, which Mbappe converted. France had not scored in the first 79 minutes.

After France won the ball back at the halfway line, Mbappe scored again almost immediately. He eventually fed the PSG player a floated pass on the edge of the box, which he volleyed into the bottom right corner to send the game into extra time.

Argentina thought they had won in extra time when Messi took advantage of a goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’s mistake to score. However, France scored again before the end of regulation when Mbappe scored another penalty after Gonzalo Montiel’s handball, sending the game into a shootout.

Mbappe also won the tournament’s Golden Boot ahead of Messi with his eighth goal in Qatar.

Mbappe and Messi scored the first two penalties, but Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved the subsequent two France attempts from Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni. Montiel then stepped up and scored to help Argentina win 4-2 on penalties.
